    South side strikes again on the second day of SASHOC Tournament

    Continuing yesterday’s southern power streak at the u18 SASHOC national tournament from the Southern Gauteng A team, the under 18 A Southern Free State girls team, coached by Gyster van Schalkwyk, secured their place on top of the pool A standings today with a win in their game against the Northern Free State team. 

    The North and South teams went head-to-head at 14:40 where Southern Free State player Khanya Mtimkulu scored the opening field goal two minutes into the game.

    Thereafter followed another two goals in the first chukka by the number one individual goal scorer after day two of the tournament, Taheera Augousti, with a field goal in the eighth minute and another goal scored from a penalty corner in the 13th minute of the game, putting Augousti as an individual in the lead with four goals in the three matches already played and the Southern Free State A team with a stable three-nil lead before half time.

    Goal number four was scored by the team in the third chukka with a field goal from Reatile Pitso, in the 35th minute. An impressive penalty stroke scored by Nadine Claassens, in the 49th minute and the last goal was scored by Jordan Fisher, where the team secured a clean sweep against the Northerns Free State team with a six- nil victory.

    In other matches Amathole A put up a competitive game against Northern Gauteng A, beating the Northern Gauteng team with only one goal difference (3-2) and stole two goals in the very last chukka against Mpumalanga A winning by 2-0 in the last game of the day.

    An exciting fixture to look out for in tomorrows program will be where the Southern Free State A team takes on Boland A, a team that has beaten both Southern Gauteng and Northern Free State A, the teams will kick of at 10:25 at UFS Field two.

    Mpumalanga and Western Province going for gold

    As the school hockey takes a break, hockey players will shift their focus to one of the most highlighted tournaments of the year, the Inter Provincial Tournament.

    16 hardworking and talented girls come together to form one team and represent each region in their respective groups.

    The tournament takes place from the 25th and the final is scheduled for the 30th of June 2023.

    The tournament will be held at the UFS Astro for the section A teams, while section B will be held at Eunice High School, both in Bloemfontein. 

    The action will kick off at 09:00 every morning. 

    It goes without saying that this tournament is competitive and interesting, bringing teams together that would normally never play against each other forces the girls as a team and individuals to expand their knowledge and skills. 

    Starting the week off strong on Sunday with an eye grabbing game lined up at 14:40 on the 25th of June at Uplands High School where the girls from Mpumalanga A go head-to-head with the Western Province A. 

    Both teams are boasted with players from schools that have been head strong in their games, the girls will be motivated to show case their skills and play for a spot in the championship rounds. Fans can expect exciting hockey throughout the entire tournament as the best in the country go to the battle field.

    EG Jansen champions of SDC Hockey Festival

    What a great win for the team from Boksburg, Hoërskool Dr. E.G. Jansen this weekend at the St Dunstan’s College hockey tournament. 

    On 12 and 13th of May 2023, 7 teams competed against each other for the golden medal and both Boksburg teams did not hold back. 

    Hoërskool Dr. EG Jansen girls played six matches in total this weekend.

    Each game was filled with high intensity and hard work from the team leaving them with five wins and one draw in the tournament. Collecting a total of 16 points all together the team had a two-point lead on their neighboring school, silver medal winners, St. Dominic’s Boksburg.

    St Dominic’s Boksburg had won four of their matches and had drew two of their games for the weekend leaving them with 14 points in total.

    EG Jansen girls state that it was a successful tournament for their team that stepped out as winners and will certainly be back in 2024.

    Get ready for some exciting action during SDC Hockey Challenge

    Get ready for some great hockey this weekend as six schools travel all the way to Gauteng for the upcoming St Dunstan’s College girls hockey tournament in Benoni to compete against each other.

    The SDC Hockey Challenge will take place at St Dunstan’s College on the 12th and 13th of May 2023 where there will be seven hardworking teams part taking in 30-minute plays of exciting hockey.

    With high-energy games and a great line up of schools this event promises to be filled with excitement and have everyone on the edge of their seats.

    “Any trip to Kingswood is tough and it’s going to be another great game of hockey,”

    That the words of Greg Dubus, first team girls hockey coach of Stirling.

    What a way to kick off the first weekend in May with a thrilling derby game against Kingswood College and Stirling this Saturday at 12:30 in Makhanda.

    Past games between these two schools have always ended up being a nail-biting experience having extremely tight games and teams winning the game only by one or two goals at the end like in 2022 where Kingswood prevailed with a very close 1-0 win against Stirling. 

    This year the Stirling team believes that a positive result can happen and Kingswood girls are going into the match with confident attitudes. Two driven teams that promise an entertaining game.

    Defending champions St Annes host Spar Regional tournament for Pietermaritzburg North

    Temperatures rise as we breach the halfway mark at the Spar KwaZulu-Natal Hockey Tournament this weekend.

    Ready to defend their title, St Anne’s College players Brooke Veenstra and Andiswa Gwala can’t wait to welcome teams to the upcoming Pietermaritzburg North Regional that they will host on Saturday 22 April. 

    The Spar tournament was launched for the first time in 2011 which makes this year the 13th year running an amazing tournament and bringing girls hockey teams from all over together. 

    This previous weekend 15 April 2023 we had teams from all around Durban participating in the Durban South Regional of the hockey challenge.

    A great tournament of hockey where the finals concluded with Kuswag High School facing Kingsway High School , after a nail biting final that lead to penalty shootouts, Kuswag High School took the title and were crowned as the Durban South Regional Champions.

    This weekend the excitement continues with first team girls playing it out around Hilton for the Pietermaritzburg North regional on Saturday as St Annes High School host the fifth regional of the Spar KZN Schoolgirls’ Hockey Challenge on their astro fields.

    First team girls around Margate, Kokstad and Matat also going head to head in the sixth tournament for the Spar KZN Schoolgirls’ Hockey Challenge competing for the Sisonke and uGu regional on Sunday 23 April 2023 hosted by Creston High School.

    We wish all these teams the best for this weekend as they play representing their school and region and look forward to seeing which teams hoist the Regional Cup next and who will be making it through to the Grand Finals this year alongside Danville Park Girls’ High School (DBN North Regional), St Mary’s DSG (Highway Regional), Kuswag Hoërskool (Durban South Regional) and Durban Girls’ College (Durban Central Regional) that will be taking place at St Mary’s DSG on the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd of July 2023.

    Garsies travel to the Free State to face St Mary’s Festival champions

    Hoërskool Garsfontein first team for girls set off this weekend all the way to the largest city in the Free State, Bloemfontein to take on Eunice and Sentraal in their league games.

    Both Garsfontein and Eunice took part in the St Mary’s Festival at the end of March and Garsfontein placed sixth in the festival overall, five placings behind Eunice who placed was crowned champions.

    Will the outcome of the festival have an impact on the players minds going into the game this weekend and will they shy away or will Garsfontein rise above and be even more driven to beat Eunice?

    This is the first time ever that Garsfontein and Sentraal play against each other. Great hockey is expected from both teams and excitement grows over what these two teams will bring to the field and what the outcome of this match will be.
