The Mancosa KwaZulu-Natal High Schools Football Association (KZNHSFA), Coastal and Inland, Second-Term Leagues are nearing their conclusion.
Coastal C
The league fixtures of the Coastal C-League ended on Friday, with Canaan College and Brettonwood finishing in first and second place on the log to secure their places in the final.
The winner will earn promotion to the Coastal B-League.
Both teams compiled records of four wins and a draw, and 13 points, from their five matches.
On Friday, Canaan College defeated third-placed Durban Academy 3-2. Brettonwood also faced fierce competition, but they got by George Campbell 2-1.
Ashton Ballito B ran out 2-0 winners over Birdswood, keeping their unfortunate opponents winless.
Inland C-League
The Inland C-League features only four teams: Umvuzo,Michaelhouse, Maritzburg College C, and Newton B.
With five matches played, Umvuzo is through to the title game. They have 13 points to their name with one more round to be played before the final.
They’ll take on Michaelhouse for the title. ‘House, with eight points, cannot be overhauled by third placed Maritzburg College C, who have four points. Newton B props up the ladder, with just two points thus far
On Friday, Maritzburg College C defeated Newton B 4-2, while Umvuzo secured a 2-0 victory over Michaelhouse.

“There’s no sweeter feeling than beating Paul Roos in Stellenbosch.”
Those were the words uttered by South African College High School (SACS) forward Reece Theunis after he helped his side record a 3-1 victory over Paul Roos Gimnasium (PRG) on Friday night.
Theunis scored a brace, while Daniel Graser netted a jaw-dropping goal that sealed the win for SACS and ensured they maintained their unbeaten run in 2025.
The highly anticipated clash headlined the week’s Hyundai Friday Nite Lights action and was also broadcast on the SuperSport Schools App, SABC Plus, and DSTV Channel 216.
The Maties AstroTurf was filled to the rafters as spectators from Cape Town, Somerset, Paarl and other parts of the province flocked in to witness a battle between two of South Africa’s top sides, maybe even number one and two.
The teams had already met once this season. That match was in the Hibbert Shield semifinal in Gqeberha, where SACS recorded a nervy 6-5 win on penalties after the match ended 3-3.
In the context of Friday’s game, that result meant very little, and it showed early on when the hosts opened the scoring with six minutes played through Reuben Gouws.
After absorbing some early pressure, PRG found themselves inside SACS’s circle, and a sloppy clearance by captain Jo le Roux landed comfortably for Gouws, who fired past Lorenzo Virisimo for the game’s opener.
Conceding early brought SACS to life, and they bossed proceedings for the remainder of the chukka in search of a response.
Aiden Hughes had a golden opportunity to pull one back for his side, but Jeandre Cilliers, in the PRG goalbox, acrobatically kept out his shot.
The visitors kept taking it to Paul Roos and their persistent pressure paid off early in the second quarter when Theunis scored his first.
Litha Kraaiplayed a free hit just outside the D to Hughes, who found the striker inside the circle where Theunis created space for himself. He quickly turned and fired off a powerful shot past Cilliers for the equaliser.
The game opened up after that, and both sides had their fair share of chances. PRG was rewarded with two short corners, but Virisimo, in goal, stood firm for SACS in what was panning out to be the game of his life.
With five minutes remaining in the second chukka, coach Sam Holmes‘s team took the game by the scruff of its neck.
Litha Kraai made a blistering, powerful, and unstoppable run from his half, beating four defenders in the process and entered PRG’s circle. He, then, found Graser unmarked on the far right and Graser applied the finishing touch for the game’s second goal.

PRG appeared unphased by conceding that goal and they had another golden opportunity through a short corner to draw level, but Virisimo wasn’t having it and made another save.
While the action intensified, both sides remained disciplined, with Kraai (green) and Cameron Groves (yellow) the only players who were carded all game long.
SACS sealed the win in the third chukka when Theunis completed his brace after an unbelievable assist by Josh Goulding.
There were no further goals in the final chukka, but coach Michael Baker‘s Stellenbosch boys kept piling on the pressure. Virismo, though, was up to everything Paul Roos threw at him, executing out-of-this-world stops. Cilliers, too, was also called into action late in the game. but the score stayed 3-1 in favour of SACS.
Reacting after the match, Theunis said SACS was keenly aware of the threats posed by PRG but had to stick to their game plan after conceding first.
“It was a bit of a slow start for us after we went a goal down,” he told SuperSport Schools Plus.
“We knew Paul Roos was going to come hard at us and come with everything. We picked it up as a team and just stuck to our processes and trusted that what we did as preparation would work.
“We had to dig deep a little bit at the end when defending our D. I’m proud of all the boys because we have team goals, and that has been crucial in our culture as we aim to play for each other always.”

Theunis, while he may be well-known, was once under the radar but has taken the schoolboy hockey scene by storm this season and is up there among the best forwards in the game.
“I came into this season with clear goals and high standards for myself, which has been pushing me to perform as best as I can every game,” he shared.
“The coaching staff has been so crucial in my performance this year. Coach Sam Holmes, Jody Erasmus, and my manager Looch Adriaanse give me the freedom to play my game and trust me to do my job as a forward.
“I’ve matured a lot mentally and worked on staying composed in key moments, trying to stay as calm as possible and trust my instincts,” he ended.
SACS will next shift its attention to the last three games of the term against Reddam House Constantia, Paarl Gimnasium, and Wynberg Boys’ High.
PRG, meanwhile, will close the first half of the season with fixtures against Stellenberg High and Wynberg.

Glenwood High overturned a 0-2 deficit to capture a 4-3 win over Westville Boys High in an enthralling Friday Nite Lights encounter at Westville on Friday evening.
In a big win for the Green Machine and a massive boost for Glenwood hockey, Xaydon Kariko, Mesuli Msomi, Murray Wicks, and Siya Malatjie were on target for the visitors.
“The team moved the ball and utilised the press well,” a pleased Michael Labuschagne, the Glenwood first-team coach, told SuperSport Schools Plus afterwards.
Glenwood headed into the game off the back of a lopsided loss at the hands of Northwood and Labuschagne’s charges were eager to show that their result from last week was not a representation of who they are as a team. However, at the halfway point of the contest, they were experiencing déjà vu.
As they did last week, Glenwood conceded first. Westville went 1-0 up towards the end of the second chukka.
Coach Cameron Mackay’s charges came close to opening the scoring after driving into the visitors’ circle. They were stopped, but Glenwood conceded a penalty corner. Westville spurned their first attempt. However, they were rewarded with a retake and, despite overshooting the injection, they scrambled and found a way through.
Five minutes into the third chukka, and Westville had doubled their lead, netting off the rebound of the goalkeeper’s excellent stop of a goal-bound shot.
Two goals down, Glenwood kept their cool. “The guys stuck to the structure of the plan and kept doing things the way they were supposed to,” Labuschagne told Supersport Schools Plus.
Their discipline was rewarded when Kariko pulled one back for the visitors in the third chukka. Westville reacted by going in search of a third goal that would restore their two-goal lead. It was, however, Glenwood who struck instead.
With just over a minute to play in the third quarter, Msomi grabbed the equaliser. At a penalty corner, he fired off a shot towards the Glenwood goal. The ‘keeper made the stop, but the ball rebounded to Msomi, and he gobbled up the opportunity.
At 2-2, there was everything to play for, and neither side was willing to settle for a draw. A thrilling 15 minutes remained.
Glenwood emerged an inspired side in the last chukka. They were a player down for most it, but that was barely perceptible because they ran hard and covered for each other.
Their persistence on attack, then, earned the Green Machine a penalty stroke and Murray Wicks easily converted from the P-spot to give his team they lead. Westville came right back to level matters.
The sides were deadlocked on three goals apiece until the final seconds of the encounter. But then, Krian Jugoo threaded a pass from the right side through to Siya Malatjie, the Glenwood captain, in the Westville circle. With only 38 seconds left on the clock, he drilled it into the back of the net to seal a 4-3 victory with a cracking winner.

Durban Girls’ College (DGC), Epworth School, and Our Lady of Fatima were unbeaten on Friday, the first day of the Independent Schools Sports Festival (ISSF), being hosted by DGC.
The showpiece served up a smorgasbord of results, from blowouts to tightly contested draws.
Fifteen teams are participating in the event, namely: DGC, Our Lady of Fatima, Roedean School, St Stithians College, Maris Stella, St Mary’s Waverley, St Anne’s Diocesan College, St Marys DSG, Kloof, St Teresa’s School, Epworth School, Brescia House, Kingsmead College, St Andrew’s School for Girls, St John’s DSG, and St Dominic’s Catholic School.
The teams completed 21 matches, played at DGC and Northwood, on the first day.
DGC got the festival underway in style, pummelling Teresa’s 7-0. That was the biggest margin of victory on the day.
The closest another team came to matching that was when Our Lady of Fatima beat Brescia House 5-0. Epworth matched that score when they outplayed St Teresa’s.
DGC wrapped up their day one assignments with a 1-0 win over Kingsmead later in the afternoon.
Their KwaZulu-Natal neighbours, Epworth, recorded three wins in three outings. Their 5-0 victory over St Teresa’s was sandwiched between a 4-1 drubbing of Brescia House and a 2-0 win over Kingsmead.
Like Epworth, Our Lady of Fatima went three from three. Coach Matthew Smith’s charges gave their supporters something to cheer and didn’t concede a single goal. They handed Brescia House a 5-0 defeat, edged past Kingsmead 1-0, and outclassed Roedean 3-0.
While they didn’t lose a single match, St Mary’s DSG, Kloof, found goals hard to come by. They played out a 0-0 stalemate with their highveld namesakes, St Mary’s Waverley, won 2-1 over Roedean, and then recorded another 0-0 draw, this time with St Dominic’s.
Coach Morne Odendaal’s St Anne’s played four matches and acquitted themselves well. However, their record was not unblemished. They scored wins over St Dominic’s, Roedean, and St Andrew’s School for Girls but came out on the wrong end of the result against St Mary’s Waverley.
The Johannesburg school will be keen to build on their victory over St Anne’s when they run out to face DGC at 08:00 on Saturday morning.
Epworth will be out to preserve their unbeaten record when they face St Stithians, also at 08:00, at Northwood.
The festival ends later on Saturday.

Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool(Affies) is all set and raring to go in their forthcoming clash with Jeppe High School for Boys on Saturday, in Johannesburg.
Jeppe has been in superb form throughout the season and has compiled a fantastic unbeaten record. They’re an awfully tough unit to break down, and they, also, have a good number of threats at the other end of the park.
Affies faces them on the Boden AstroTurf on Saturday and the Pretoria School, too, is a tough nut to crack. They field a well-disciplined team and they have designs on shaking things up against their highly regarded opponents.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Colin Mendoza, the Head of Hockey at Affies, acknowledged the tough challenge that lies ahead, but said he was confident about his side’s approach.
“Yeah, Jeppe is strong this year,” Mendoza admitted. “But, in saying that, we have been watching a few of their matches, and it’s clear there are several individuals they rely on to have an impact on the game.
“From an Affies’ standpoint, we emphasise the importance of teamwork and a collective effort in executing the game tactics.”
Despite the Jeppe’s strong form, Mendoza believes his team’s unity on and off the ball could deliver them success.
“As a team, we play really well when we connect well on and off the ball. We are all on the same page. Going into the Jeppe match, that has been our main focus””
Affies will also be looking to make up for the disappointment of conceding a late goal in their last outing, which allowed King Edward VII School (KES) to snatch a 3-3 draw.
“We had a very good preparation week before KES, and we feel a bit disappointed about not getting rewarded with the win,” said Mendoza. “We played really well and ticked the necessary boxes during that game.”
The Affies’ coach also highlighted the individual talent and leadership within his squad and praised his players who were recently selected for provincial teams.
“We have several boys selected for Northern Gauteng teams, and we are very proud of them, namely Johan Pieterse (captain) and Wium van Niekerk in the A-side,” he said. “Over and above that, we are a team that is diverse in both age and experience. We are excited to put in a massive team shift this weekend.”
ML Sultan stands as the lone team boasting a flawless 100 percent win record in the Coastal and Inland Leagues of the Mancosa KwaZulu-Natal High Schools Football Association (KZNHSFA) Second-Term League.
They’ve played six matches and won each one of them, all but one of them convincingly.
On Thursday, ML Sultan cruised to a 5-0 win over Thornhill. thereby securing a place in the final of the Inland B-League, with one game remaining in the regular phase of the season.
On Friday, Sanele Ngcobo, the first-team coach at ML Sultan, told SuperSport Schools Plushe was satisfied with his team’s achievement of reaching the title decider. He was especially pleased, though, with the kind of football they have played along the way.
“Last year [2024], it was our first time participating in the Inland B-League, and we learned a lot about the league. This year, we came up with a plan of treating each game as a final game where we must get maximum points,” he said.
That strategy has borne fruit. ML Sultan sports a perfect record, and the team appears to be more focused than ever.
“We’re working hard with the boys, even though we have a lot of challenges, such as a ground. We don’t have a full-size soccer ground here at ML Sultan. It’s a seven-aside ground, but our boys, they give more than what we asked for in the game,” Ngcobo explained.
Ngcobo said his team’s goal, unsurprisingly, it to participate in the Inland A-League. However, achieving that goal is not a straightforward challenge. Recently, they were pushed all the way by Maritzburg College B, scoring a narrow 3-2 win to secure all three points on offer.
Ngcobo acknowledged that the game with Maritzburg College B was the toughest his side had faced thus far this season. Next Thursday, though, ML Sultan faces another formidable opponent in NorthburyPark.
“We want three points from our last game against Northbury. It will be a challenging game, but we’re looking for a win,” Ngcobo said.

It’s a crucial match for Northbury Park. They have their sights set on second place and, with that, a place in the title game.
Maritzburg College B is poised to pounce should ML Sultan defeat Northbury Park. College B is in fourth place, with 10 points, trailing Riverwood, in third, by a single point, but Riverwood has played its last game already.
The Red, Black, and White takes on Thornhill, who lie sixth in the standings. ML Sultan is assured of a place in the final, but their opponent in far from decided.
While others chase an opportunity to play for the title, ML Sultan will be working hard to maintain a clean record.
Ngcobo stated that his team has gained significant knowledge and valuable experience from their participation in the KZNHSFA, and he considers the league to be a blessing for his players.
“We have talented players such as Aphelele Mkhize, our captain, Thabiso Madlala, Sipho Mkhwanazi, Sisanda Molefe, Olwethu Mkhize and Vuyani Mkhize who broke his leg against the Maritzburg College B Team. They give us more than 100 percent and I think one day some of them they will make it to the professional level,” Ngcobo told SuperSport Schools Plus.
Reflecting on his team’s season, Ngcobo said he believes they have achieved the objectives they established at the start of the season.
“We are through to the final while we still have a game before final,” he said. “I’m very happy we will play the final, but our aim is to play in the Inland A-league next year.
“The sad part is that I have seven boys who are doing grade 12 this year, and they won’t be there if we make it to the A-league,” he concluded.
In other matches played on Thursday in the Inland B-League, Maritzburg College B defeated Alexandra High B 3-0, Maritzburg Christian School secured a 2-0 victory over Heritage Academy, and Northbury Park escaped with a close 2-1 win over Riverwood.

Met slegs een uitspeelplek wat oorbly, het die JOMO-liga se puntelys drasties verminder tot drie spanne wat nog ‘n realistiese kans staan om deur te dring na die Gauteng-uitspele. Helpmekaar is in ‘n dominante posisie bo aan die puntelys en het reeds hul plek in die uitspeelrondes verseker danksy ‘n reeks onoorwonne vertonings. Hul konsekwente spel en doeltreffende aanvallende struktuur bied aan hulle ‘n onbetwisbare voordeel.
Noordheuwel lê tweede en hoewel hulle teen Helpies vasgeval het, het hulle genoeg wedstryde gewen om steeds in ‘n gunstige posisie te wees. Tóg is hul plek nie gewaarborg nie, en die druk is enorm vir hul laaste wedstryd teen Rand Park, wat goeie momentum bou en in hul nekke blaas.
Rand Park, in die derde plek, is slegs een sege weg van ‘n uitspeelplek. Na hul oortuigende oorwinning oor Randburg is hulle sterk op dreef en sal hulle lot bepaal word in die beslissende kragmeting met Noordheuwel, wat beloof om ‘n naelbytstryd van formaat af te gee.
Monument, Linden, Krugersdorp en Florida het reeds té veel punte verloor om nog in aanmerking geneem te word, wat beteken dat die uitspeelstryd nou woed tussen Helpmekaar, Noordheuwel en Rand Park.
