{"id":10389,"date":"2022-06-15T15:34:53","date_gmt":"2022-06-15T15:34:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rugby.supersportschools.com\/?p=10389"},"modified":"2022-06-15T15:34:53","modified_gmt":"2022-06-15T15:34:53","slug":"craven-week-makes-a-comeback-after-two-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=10389","title":{"rendered":"Craven Week makes a comeback after two years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-10390\" src=\"https:\/\/rugby.supersportschools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Youth-Weeks.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"268\" \/>It&#8217;s official after a break of two years we will once again have a <strong>Craven Week<\/strong> this year.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s edition of the prestigious rugby week for u18 players will be hosted by <strong>Rondebosch Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> from 4 to 9 July in Cape Town. It will be the first time since 1967 that Cape Town will play host to the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>The tournament of 1967 was played at Newlands. The inaugural Craven Week was hosted in 1964 in East London. The Craven Week was however hosted in the Western Cape a couple of times since 1967 with <strong>Stellenbosch<\/strong> (1973, 1980, 1996, 2007, 2015), <strong>Paarl<\/strong> (1987, 2018), <strong>Worcester<\/strong> (1981), and <strong>Wellington<\/strong> (2003) all hosting the premier schools&#8217; rugby festival in the world.<\/p>\n<p>It will be the first tournament since it was hosted in 2019 at <strong>Grey College<\/strong> in Bloemfontein. The tournament was forced to take a break for two years (2020 and 2021) due to the restrictions caused by the Coronavirus pandemic in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Western Province<\/strong> faced the <strong>Blue Bulls<\/strong> in the main match of the 2019 edition of the tournament. They were crowned unofficial champions after coming out on top by 56-31 in the clash. Province&#8217;s flyhalf, <strong>Kade Wolhuter<\/strong>, finished the tournament as the top scorer with 50 points after also contributing 16 points to their victory in the main match.<\/p>\n<p>His scrumhalf, <strong>Dylan &#8220;Bobby&#8221; Alexander<\/strong>, was named the Player of the Tournament. The Craven Week was to be hosted in Port Elizabeth in 2020 and in Krugersdorp in 2021. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s official after a break of two years we will once again have a Craven Week this year.
