{"id":1075,"date":"2023-11-05T11:12:15","date_gmt":"2023-11-05T09:12:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/watersports.supersportschools.com\/?p=1075"},"modified":"2023-11-05T11:12:15","modified_gmt":"2023-11-05T09:12:15","slug":"top-performers-awarded-at-the-saints-water-polo-invitational","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=1075","title":{"rendered":"Top performers awarded at the Saints Water Polo Invitational"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-945 hoverZoomLink\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/water-polo-ball-and-splash-with-athlete-in-swimmi-2023-02-14-22-45-01-utc-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/>The annual St Stithians Water Polo invitational concluded at the end of October, after South African College Schools (SACS), and Herschel Girls School were crowned champions in the boys and girls section respectively.<\/p>\n<p>SACS, defeated St John\u2019s College (7-6) in the final, while a hard-fought (5-4) win for Herschel saw the Cape Town schools leave Gauteng with all the gold.<\/p>\n<p>The victory, for SACS was their third consecutive triumph at the invitational, having won it last year, and in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>For Herschel Girls, however, it was a momentous win that saw the side claim their first-ever triumph at the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, both teams were duly rewarded when the \u201cALL-STAR\u201d teams of the tournament were announced after the finals on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>SACS went unbeaten in the tournament, cruising past their opponents in the group stages, before defeating Clifton 7-3 in the quarterfinals, and edging out a resilient St Andrew\u2019s team 8-6 in the semi-finals to book themselves a spot in the showpiece against St John\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>In the team of the tournament, the winners have four players including the likes of <strong>Connor Melling-Williams<\/strong>, <strong>Jandro Rojo-Roos<\/strong>, <strong>Mac Lecuona,<\/strong> and the ever-present <strong>Nicholas Fall.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fall was also awarded the \u201cbest attacker\u201d accolade, closing off his tournament with a well-deserved individual award.<\/p>\n<p>The finalist, St John\u2019s College also has two players on the team, with<strong> Geroge Pryce, <\/strong>and <strong>Nicholas Searle. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The other team with a vast representation are third-place finishers, St Andrew\u2019s College from <strong>Makhanda<\/strong>.
