CAPE TOWN. – Western Province’s second-stringers, the WP XV, have made major statement against Boland in their opening clash of the u18 Craven Week at Rondebosch Boys’ High.<\/p>\n

The home side won the clash comfortably by 65-7, after leading handsomely by 34-0 at half-time. Angelo Daniels<\/strong> (wing), Hugo-Ben Horn<\/strong> (Nr. 8), Jandre Genis<\/strong> (fullback), and Matthew Beckett<\/strong> (loosehead prop) all completed a brace of tries as Boland struggled to stop the flow of tries.<\/p>\n

Genis was in fine form as he also converted six of his side’s tries and slotted a penalty for a personal contribution of 25 points to the score.<\/p>\n

Outside centre, Jurenzo Julius<\/strong>, seemed hungry after spending quite a lot of time on the touchline due to injury. He was a menace on attack and created quite a few opportunities for Western Province.<\/p>\n

The winning side’s scrumhalf, Aiden Muller<\/strong>, also had a storming match as he directed play well.<\/p>\n

The Sharks<\/strong> had to work much harder for their 33-5 victory over the Valke<\/strong> than the scoreline suggests. The team from KwaZulu-Natal only had a 12-5 lead at the break thanks to four penalties by flyhalf, Deano Boezak<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Valke threatened to score a couple of times but didn’t manage to convert the opportunities into tries or points. Their captain and lock, Ryno van Aswegen<\/strong>, caused the Sharks major problems in the line-outs.<\/p>\n

The Valke’s fullback, David Twala<\/strong>, scored a well-deserved try after threatening a couple of times with some well-timed runs cutting through the Sharks’ defence.<\/p>\n

The Sharks’ midfield pairing of Dwight Pietersen<\/strong> en Lihle Bester<\/strong> also had a good day at the office. Both scored tries and were rock solid in defence.<\/p>\n
