The annual <\/span>Jean de Villiers U16 rugby tournament<\/b>, hosted by <\/span>Paarl Gimnasium<\/b>, has evolved into one of the most prestigious under-16 tournaments in the world, with top schools like Paarl Gimnasium, Paarl Boys’ High, Grey College, Affies, Monument, Paul Roos Gimnasium and Boland Landbou who have all committed to competing at every tournament since its inception in 1993.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the calibre of schools competing, it should be no surprise that dozens of Springbok legends played in this tournament before going on to have professional careers. There are sure to be some future stars playing on Saturday as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

The hosts take on the mighty <\/span>Grey College<\/b> from Bloemfontein on the first day, which is sure to be a clash of the titans as both of these teams have been dominating their opponents in 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gimmies ran 97 points past <\/span>Potchefstroom Gimnasium<\/b> in their opening match of the season, and Grey has also managed to score 106 in their last two matches combined.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Monday, the <\/span>Oakdale Landbou<\/b> boys from Riversdale take on the mighty <\/span>Marlow Landbou <\/b>from Cradock in what is sure to be a highly physical clash.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Wednesday, <\/span>Paarl Boys\u2019 High <\/b>will play against Ho\u00ebrskool <\/strong><\/span>Nelspruit<\/b> in the final match of the tournament.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The team selectors for the <\/span>2023 Grant Khomo Week<\/b> will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on these fixtures, as it provides some of the most competitive matchups of the season, with some of the top rugby schools in South Africa playing against each other.<\/span><\/p>\n
