It was clear that not one of the sides wanted to settle for a draw.<\/p>\n

Waterkloof<\/strong> secured the 22-19 victory over HTS Drostdy a few minutes after the siren as flyhalf, Franco Cronj\u00e9<\/strong>, slotted his fourth penalty.<\/p>\n

The clash was the opening match of this year’s NMI Toyota Menlyn Noord\/Suid<\/strong>-tournament hosted by Affies in Pretoria.<\/p>\n

The match went on a couple minutes after the siren because both teams tried to grab the victory in the dying moments of the game. Klofies enjoyed a narrow 8-5 lead at the break.<\/p>\n

Klofies’ captain and lock, Dale Arlow<\/strong>, crashed over to opening his side’s account moments after the Donkeys’ captain and hooker, Hein Louw, was sin-binned.<\/p>\n

Drostdy’s winger Wilbre Claassen<\/strong> looked dangerous every time he was placed in possesion. He scored an intercept try early in the second half to place some pressure on Klofies. The team from Worcester’s flanker Matt Romao<\/strong> is also a player to keep an eye on in 2023.<\/p>\n

Dr. EG Jansen<\/strong> of Boksburg won a closely contested encounter against Welkom Gimnasium by 19-13. The team from Boksburg held a comfortable 14-3 lead at the break thanks to two tries by Marnus Swarts<\/strong> (prop) and Juandr\u00e9 Jacobs<\/strong> (wing).<\/p>\n

Fullback, David Twala<\/strong>, was dangerous when he joined the line and he had his kicking boots on. He will without a doubt be one of EG’s stalwarts during the season.<\/p>\n

For Welkom Gimnasium their outside centre, Taschon Meas<\/strong>, as well as the lock, Tristan Appollis<\/strong>, could feel more than happy with their performances.<\/p>\n
