High <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">managed to overcome a Red Army onslaught, beating King Edward VII by 10-8 in a thriller of a game on day two of the <\/span><b>Standard Bank KES Easter Festival<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was not an empty seat in sight as the Joburg faithful attended the annual Easter sporting bonanza en masse in support of the home team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Catch all the action on <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/supersportschools\"><strong>SuperSport Schools<\/strong><\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/supersportschools\">www.supersportschools.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>King Edward VII<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> boys did not disappoint their loyal supporters, putting in a heroic effort against the powerhouse from Paarl, managing to stun their opponents, even if they were not able to come away with a win.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the first time Boishaai is attending the festival, and they have already left their mark, beating Selborne comprehensively 48-5 on day one.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was the home team who looked like the dominant side in the first half though, applying early pressure with a penalty conversion by their flyhalf, <\/span><b>Simphiwe Moyo<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moyo had a brilliant day, leading the KES attack with ball in hand and pinning the Paarl boys in their own half with some spectacular kicks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The continued pressure exposed some cracks in the Paarl game that they will need to address before they face their remaining rivals for the top position in SA schools rugby this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a show of solidarity with the Boishaai player, <\/span><b>Chris Jordaan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who recently suffered a serious injury during a match at last weekend\u2019s <\/span><b>North\/South<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tournament, the KES no. 8,<\/span><b> Kebotile Maak<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, played without a number on his back.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maak also had an outstanding game, leaving everything on the pitch for his side.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The match was so physical and hard-fought, that it took 21 minutes for the first try to be scored.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Paarl defence flinched first, as big <\/span><b>Esethu Mnebelele<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the hooker, powered over the line to the delight of the crowd, supported by his tighthead prop, <\/span><b>Joshua Aube<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first half ended with the home team in the ascendency, leading 8-0.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boishaai showed champion\u2019s grit, never dropping their heads even after more of their attacks were laid to waste by an immovable KES defence.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It took 40 minutes of play for Boishaai to score their first points when they finally decided to attempt to take a shot at goal.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their fullback, <\/span><b>JC Mars<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who was also excellent in defence, converted the penalty for the visitors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boishaai stuck to their structures and were finally rewarded for their endless pressure when their stalwart hooker,<\/span><b> HD Odendal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, managed to drive over the try line at the back of a well-set maul. <\/span><b>Daniel van der Merwe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, on at flyhalf for Boishaai, kept a cool head and managed to add the conversion that would ultimately decide this epic battle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The KES crowd nearly burst at the seams with excitement as their lightning-quick winger, <\/span><b>Timi Oluwole<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, darted down the touchline, only to be denied by a brilliant defensive effort by Mars.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Boishaai have one final hurdle, in Northwood, to navigate on Monday to end their week unbeaten. Northwood has also not lost this week though and will be looking to cause a major upset.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can watch this match, and the other matches at the festival again on <\/span><b>SuperSport Schools<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.- <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/supersportschools\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Register your free account now<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Selborne<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also managed to pull off a win against an energetic<\/span><b> Parktown<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> attack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Selborne captain and vice-captain, <\/span><b>Grant Day<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (flanker) and <\/span><b>Amani Somane<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (fullback) led by example, scoring the first two tries for the Border team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parktown were defending for most of the first half but managed to score with their first real opportunity to attack when <\/span><b>Karabo Phakwane<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (winger) finished off an acrobatic try in the corner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parktown launched a comeback attempt with two late tries in the game by <\/span><b>Thombela Folo<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (scrumhalf) and replacement, <\/span><b>Sejoto Olwenkosi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but it was too little, too late for the Parktownians, and Selborne managed to hold on to win 23-17.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Selborne are facing a wounded KES on Monday and will need to seriously improve on their performance to avoid disaster. They were not able to convert any of their tries and they left numerous opportunities on the field. KES will punish them if they repeat their mistakes on Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Queen\u2019s College<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> put in a stellar performance to outplay the big boys from <\/span><b>Ben Vorster<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spurred on by the Gwijo chants of the Queen\u2019s College supporters, the forward pack stepped up to match the Buffels, allowing their backline to do their magic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Sisipho Mpaka<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the open-side flanker, crossed the whitewash twice, and flyhalf, <\/span><b>Turshaan Hare<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, was inspirational with his contribution, also adding ten points off the tee.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Queen\u2019s College head boy and no. 8, <\/span><b>Axola Khatshwa<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, played phenomenally and acted like an extra centre when he slid into the backline on the attack and <strong>Jade Zindlu<\/strong> controlled the game from the scrumhalf position after coming on at halftime.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On defence it was their winger,<\/span><b> Siya Konki<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who excelled, standing up to his much larger opponents and delivering a try-saving tackle at the end of the first half, just as Ben Vorster seemed to be gaining momentum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the Limpopo boys, the big lock, <\/span><b>Aldo Blignaut<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, stood out, carrying the ball well and driving back the Queen\u2019s players in every collision. He also contributed to his team\u2019s only try on the day, paving the way for the loosehead prop,<\/span><b> Meyer Jacobs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to get over the line.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Siyanda Nkosi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (centre) set the tone for the game by scoring two equally impressive tries early on in <\/span><b>Northwood<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s romped to victory over<\/span><b> Hudson Park<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Durban side\u2019s lock, <\/span><b>Vuyo Gwiji <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and no. 8, <\/span><b>Siyanda Mabuza<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, also excelled for their team and their flyhalf, <\/span><b>Cade Latham<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> contributed with some difficult conversions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Diamantveld <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rallied to earn an important win over<\/span><b> Nico Malan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The team from Kimberley struggled in the first half, as they have been struggling this season, but their core leadership group managed to take control of the game and come back after trailing at halftime to win 37-21.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their lock,<\/span><b> JJ Fourie<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, scored the try to give them the lead, which was a just reward for his role in their play.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Durbanville<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> put on a masterclass in the first game of the day, scoring eight tries to their opponents\u2019 four in an action-packed match that was the perfect way to kick off the day\u2019s activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Almost all twelve of the tries could make the festival\u2019s highlight reel with both teams playing exhilarating running rugby.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>James Nero<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (centre) scored two of Durbanville\u2019s tries and<\/span><b> Shaun Klein<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> scored a try and converted all eight of their tries, adding a massive 21 points to his team\u2019s total by himself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They beat Kemptonpark 61-21.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Eldoraigne<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> proved too strong for <\/span><b>St David\u2019s Marist<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Though a brace of tries by the St David\u2019s centre, <\/span><b>James Pearson<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and ten points off the boot of flyhalf, <\/span><b>Jayden Jafta<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, gave their team a respectable score, Eldoraigne were in control throughout the match.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Centurion side\u2019s captain, <\/span><b>Johan Coetzee<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (no. 8) finished off an electric piece of play to score the final try of the match, after a world-class pass by his scrumhalf, <\/span><b>Donnevin Naude<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Naude was integral to the Eldoraigne game throughout and the team will be happy with a solid performance by some of their younger players and a good win.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While all the action was taking place on the field, KES old boys <\/span><b>Dylan Curtis <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>James Gerber <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">were in action off the field, where they were virtually cycling up Mt Everest in a bid to raise money to benefit a student who would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend an institution such as KES, another fitting gesture by the hosts, in line with the spirit of these events.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Scorers:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Paarl Boys&#8217; High 10 (0) &#8211; <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Try: HB Odendal.
