\"\"The final of the 2023 <\/span>NWU Prestige Series<\/b> has arrived and it promises to be an epic matchup after the drama that has unfolded throughout the series so far.<\/span><\/p>\n

The deciding match will be played on Saturday, the 6th of May, by the reigning champs, <\/span>Noordheuwel<\/b>, and the unlikely challengers, <\/span>Oos-Moot<\/b>, who reach the final for the first time ever.<\/span><\/p>\n

Both teams thoroughly deserve their place in the final after two very different, but equally entertaining campaigns.<\/span><\/p>\n

Noordheuwel<\/b> has been unbeatable in the series so far, dominating their group stage and already managing a convincing 48-7 victory over Oos-Moot in their first game of the season before doing away with <\/span>Oosterlig<\/b> (55-10) and<\/span> Potch Volkskool <\/b>(54-0).<\/span><\/p>\n

The team from Krugersdorp then eliminated a promising <\/span>Die Anker<\/b> in the quarter-finals 69-22.<\/span><\/p>\n

Their first real test of the season came in the penultimate round against an inspired <\/span>Heidelberg Volkskool<\/b> attack, yet the Nories still managed to win that game 29-17.<\/span><\/p>\n

For Oos-Moot the road to the final has been much more challenging.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The team from Pretoria beat Oosterlig (48-16)\u00a0 in their first match of the season before running into Noordheuwel.<\/span><\/p>\n

They managed to qualify for the quarter-finals by beating Potch Volkies 31-19 in their last group stage match.<\/span><\/p>\n

Qualifying second in their group meant that they faced <\/span>Rustenburg<\/b> in the playoff stages. Rustenburg were unbeaten in their group and looked to be one of the favourites to reach the final.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Oos-Moot team galvanized and put in a stunning performance to progress to the semis, beating Rustenburg 37-30 thanks, in part, to a heroic shift put in by their flyhalf, <\/span>Charl van der Sluis<\/b>, who managed five penalties, two conversions and a spectacular drop goal, adding 22 points with his boot.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Pretoria boys then defied the odds again against <\/span>Ho\u00ebrskool Middelburg<\/b> in the semi-finals, winning that match with a relatively comfortable 29-10, looking as if they are only getting better as the season progresses.<\/span><\/p>\n

So will the rematch be a repeat of the first encounter, or does Oos-Moot have more magic left in them for a big upset?<\/span><\/p>\n

Whatever the case, spectators at the NWU Puk field in Potchefstroom are sure to be entertained with an epic finale to what has been a rollercoaster of a series.<\/span><\/p>\n

As mentioned, Van der Sluis is one to watch for Oos-Moot, as is his winger, <\/span>Tapiwa Rwafa<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

They play without their other winger, Ewald Wolmarans<\/strong>, who had the misfortune of being injured in the final training session on Thursday before the big game. Van Zyl Myburgh<\/strong> moves into his position from centre and Ruwan Allen<\/strong> steps up to start in the 12 jersey.<\/p>\n

For the team from Krugersdorp, <\/span>JT Kapank <\/b>(flyhalf) has also looked sensational this season and is someone who can decide a game, and <\/span>Keaton van Deventer<\/b> (winger) has scored some scintillating tries for his side.<\/span><\/p>\n
