The third term’s rugby fixtures kicked off with some thrilling action in the Western Cape with the highlight being Boland Landbou<\/strong> beating Paarl Boys’ High<\/strong> for the first time since 2009 at the Buco Brug Street Stadium in Paarl.<\/p>\n

After trailing by three points (15-12) at halftime, Boland Landbou got the most out of the second half to end their losing streak against Boishaai with a 26-22 victory.<\/p>\n

Their Western Province Academy Week flyhalf, Retagen van Rooi<\/strong>, was in amongst the action again, scoring a try in the final moments of the first half to reduce their deficit at a crucial moment right before the break and converting three of their four tries.<\/p>\n

Paarl Boys’ High’s SA Schools fullback, JC Mars<\/strong>, opened the scoring early on to get the home team on the front foot, but they were definitely missing the likes of Divan Fuller<\/strong> (flanker), one of their other SA Schools players, and their big lock Van Heerden Pretorius.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Though the visitors seemed fired up in the second half, it was the Boishaai winger, Scott Nel<\/strong>, who drew the first blood again when he ran almost the length of the field to score against the run of play and give his team a buffer to work with again.<\/p>\n

Boland were relentless however and two tries by Hans Verster<\/strong> (lock) and Enslin Claasen<\/strong> (winger) gave them the lead which they defended bravely in the final moments to secure their first win against the Paarl Boys’ team since 2009. That year Boland Landbou also beat Paarl Gimnasium.<\/p>\n

In Stellenbosch Oakdale<\/strong> seemed to be giving Paul Roos<\/strong> a good run for their money, but the home team was already regaining control of the game when a red card to one of the Oakdale players for a dangerous tackle seemed to seal their fates.<\/p>\n

Paul Roos’s centre, Samuel Badenhorst<\/strong>, scored the final try to secure another victory for the Stellenbosch side.<\/p>\n

Badenhorst has recently been selected as part of the SA u18 Sevens team to compete at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago in August.<\/p>\n

Charlie Hofmeyr<\/strong> had to rely on the many kickers in their team to edge past Hugenote. Three different players scored off the kicking tee for Charlies. Lawrence Jantjies<\/strong> (winger), Phillip du Plessis<\/strong> (centre) and their SA U18 Sevens representative and flyhalf, Luan Giliomee<\/strong> all took the kicking responsibilities at different points in the game and though the home team scored more tries, their shared abilities were enough to secure them the win with a single point (23-22).<\/p>\n

Robertson<\/strong> ran 13 unanswered tries by Ho\u00ebrskool Stellenbosch<\/strong> on their own home field to win 87-0.<\/p>\n

Worcester Gimnasium<\/strong> also continued to impress, beating the visiting Parel Vallei<\/strong> comprehensively 26-3.<\/p>\n

Liam Pekeur<\/strong>, Motagu<\/strong>‘s centre, scored 12 points with a try, two conversions and a penalty in their nailbiting 28-26 win over Overberg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Kasselsvlei<\/strong>‘s centre, Damian Jacobs<\/strong>, scored all of his team’s points with two tries and a conversion as they beat Fish Hoek<\/strong> 12-8.<\/p>\n

Porterville<\/strong>‘s left winger, Brendon September<\/strong>, also managed a brace in their 40-7 triumph over Dirkie Uys<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
