In a Mutual & Federal Premier Interschools match in Durban on Saturday,\u00a0 Glenwood play host to Monument of Krugersdorp,\u00a0 two of South Africa’s best school sides this year.<\/p>\n
In the recent FNB Top 20,\u00a0 Monument were ranked 11th,\u00a0 Glenwood 15th. The difference in standard and ability is negligible. In their 14 matches Glenwood have played against seven teams of Top 20 standard; in their 12 matches Monnas have played against five teams of Top 20 standard.<\/p>\n
Glenwood had a slow start to the season ,\u00a0 but then they were playing only top opposition. They lost heavily to Paarl Gim but more closely to Paul Roos,\u00a0 Drostdy,\u00a0 Garsfontein and Kearsney. When their fortunes started looking up they beat Boland Landbou,\u00a0 Paarl Boys’ High,\u00a0 Hilton and then last week in a magnificent match Maritzburg College.<\/p>\n
Monnas,\u00a0 on the other hand,\u00a0 started off well with a win over Noord-Kaap\u00a0 but subsequently have lost to Centurion,\u00a0 the strong EG Jansen side (32-18) and then just 13-8 to Grey Bloem in a match they could just as well have won. Then last weekend they drew with the struggling KES side.<\/p>\n
To judge from the KwaZulu Natal Craven representative sides,\u00a0 Glenwood are star-studded.\u00a0 They have nine players in the KwaZulu Natal Craven Week side – Kerron van Vuuren,\u00a0 Koos Tredoux,\u00a0 Ntokozo Vidima,\u00a0 Mzwandile Mazibuko,\u00a0 Jaco Coetzee,\u00a0 Sphamandla Ngcobo,\u00a0 Akona Nela,\u00a0 Morn\u00e9 Joubert\u00a0 and\u00a0 Corn\u00e9 Vermaak,\u00a0 back again from injury.<\/p>\n
Glenwood and Monnas have met in each of the last three years. Glenwood won 26-5 in 2010 and 16-8 in 2011 while Monnas won 25-18 last year.<\/p>\n
If the top schoolboy matches this season are anything to go by, this could be another great match and one too close to predict.<\/p>\n
