{"id":29361,"date":"2023-06-02T08:58:16","date_gmt":"2023-06-02T06:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hockey.supersportschools.com\/?p=1434"},"modified":"2023-06-02T08:58:16","modified_gmt":"2023-06-02T06:58:16","slug":"st-andrews-eager-to-stop-a-roaring-selborne-bus-in-makhanda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=29361","title":{"rendered":"St Andrews eager to stop a roaring Selborne bus in Makhanda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1445\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Selborne-College-Schools-Hockey-Goal-Keeper-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/>St Andrew&#8217;s College will be looking to put a halt to Selborne College&#8217;s season when the two giants face off in a provincial derby in Makhanda this coming Friday afternoon.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Selborne will be searching for their fifth straight win this season (in derby matches) after beating the likes of Queens (3-1), Dale (6-0), and Merrifield (7-1) in May.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The black and white troops have been phenomenal this season, to say the least. Their attack style of play, counterattacking on turnovers has seen them defy all odds, which has shown in the number of players from the team selected to represent the Amathole Schools in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hockey.supersportschools.com\/amathole-schools-announce-strong-squad-for-ipt-tournament\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IPT tournament<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in June.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interestingly, the East London side has been able to do the dirty work home and away this season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A match they will look back on is the gutsy performance they produced vs. Grey Bloem in the Free State, where they played out to a (2-2) draw in a match affected by bad lightning before traveling to Komani to register a 3-1 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hockey.supersportschools.com\/selborne-crash-the-queens-party-on-reunion-day\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">victory against Queens<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at their reunion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, as much as Selborne go into the match as favorites, St Andrews will relish the undergod title, especially in their backyard.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Led by Dean Ferreira, the Makhanda side has had promising results, only losing four of their 14 matches while winning six and playing out evenly on four occasions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Speaking to <strong>SuperSport Schools<\/strong> briefly during the week, Ferreira had this to say ahead of the match:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe team has been performing well this season but have drawn their last two fixtures and are hoping for a win this week against Selborne,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPlayers to look out for are Ross Gordon who is in good form and has scored in both the previous matches as well as Sibusiso Mxube who is a skilful player and was recently selected for the under 18 provincial team.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Looking for a win in two matches, Ferreira and his guns will, however, be wary of a side that possesses the skills of players like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hockey.supersportschools.com\/van-der-merwe-embracing-the-challenges-as-selborne-skipper\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ben van der Merwe<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Waeden Plaatjes, and Tre\u2019 Gilbert, to name a few.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The clash wi<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ll be played at the Webster field Astro, with kick-off scheduled for 16:00.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In other fixtures in the province, Dale College, who are still in search of their first win of the season go head-to-head against Kingswood College, while Pearson High will look to close the term with a win against Woodridge College.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whereas the fixture between Gqeberha\u2019s Grey High and Outeniqua has been called off.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The teams:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>St Andrew&#8217;s College:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Connor MacNamara, Kamva Kese, Stuart Carr, Jake Coventry, Andrew Holmes, Sibusiso Mxube, Ross Gordon, James Grundlingh, Ian Meihuizen, Mark Ter Morshuizen, Hilton Lindhorst, Muhammad Moosa (GK), Drew Stockill Laurie Apps, Jonthan Mackenzie, Kumkani Kabane.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Selborne College:\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Charlie Caswell, Gray van Heerden, Daniel Gaylard, Shane Stagg, Ben van der Merwe (captain), Masibulele Siswana, Tre\u2019 Gilbert, Daniel Conroy, Jacques van der Merwe, James Carr, Daniel Sirgel, Lunga Malusi, Waeden Plaatjes, Cade Kock.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Fixtures:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Friday, 2 June<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>15:45 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211;
