{"id":29919,"date":"2023-10-16T09:41:23","date_gmt":"2023-10-16T07:41:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/watersports.supersportschools.com\/?p=982"},"modified":"2023-10-16T09:41:23","modified_gmt":"2023-10-16T07:41:23","slug":"selborne-edge-st-andrews-to-win-woodridge-stayers-tournament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=29919","title":{"rendered":"Selborne edge St Andrews to win Woodridge Stayers tournament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-921\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/ball-hand-and-water-polo-swimming-pool-and-sport-2023-07-28-21-07-00-utc-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/>A hat-trick of goals by Liam Hansen, to go along with goals from Connor Maree, and Thomas Caswell secured an impressive, hard-fought (5-2) victory for <strong>Selborne College<\/strong> against <strong>St Andrews College<\/strong> in the inaugural Woodridge Stayers Water Polo tournament at Woodridge on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Selborne, who attended the SACS Water Polo tournament late last month were looking to improve their overall performance having finished outside the top five in Cape Town.<\/p>\n<p>The East London side was seeded in Pool B, alongside <strong>Pearson High School<\/strong>, Stirling High School, and <strong>Somerset College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The visitors were expected to win their pool convincingly and they did, thumping all of their opposition to make their route to the final smooth.<\/p>\n<p>In their three pool matches, Storm Siebert\u2019s side scored a mammoth 51 goals while only conceding one goal.<\/p>\n<p>These came from a (16-1) whopping of Pearson High School, (21-0) demolition of Somerset College, and a (14-0) breeze past Stirling High School.<\/p>\n<p>In the play-offs, they put 18 goals past <strong>Woodridge<\/strong> before thumping <strong>Glenwood House<\/strong> (19-8) to set themselves clear of a final against <strong>St Andrews College<\/strong>, who had to go to penalties to win their semi-final (9-8) against Cape Town\u2019s Wynberg Boys.<\/p>\n<p>The final was nothing short of competitive as<strong> Selborne<\/strong> dominated proceedings from the get-go.<\/p>\n<p>The side recorded eight goal attempts, converting five, while <strong>St Andrews<\/strong> converted two of their five attempts.<\/p>\n<p>Selborne also recorded a high number of blocks and steals, eight compared to St Andrews\u2019 six.
