PHOTO: Theo Garrun<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second day of the St David&#8217;s Fasken Festival got underway with several teams eyeing a win, rather than playing cautiously for a draw.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two out of the four matches played ended with a result, while the rest of the matches all played out to draws, Paul Roos and St John\u2019s College walked away with victories.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paul Roos Gimnasium from Stellenbosch cruised to a 9 wicket victory over local side Ho\u00ebrskool Noordheuwel as the side struggled to put themselves in a competitive position. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The batsmen from Krugersdorp will want to aim to spend some more time at the crease in their next fixture.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Callum Appollis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was pick of the bowlers from the Cape, taking 8 wickets across both innings and was well aided by <\/span><b>Liam Basson<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the second innings who ended with figures 4\/35.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">St John\u2019s College&#8217;s <\/span><b>Alec Loveland<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, partnered with <\/span><b>Cole Francis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in the first innings and <\/span><b>Christopher Ford <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the second innings, bowling in tandem and picking up crucial wickets to apply pressure on St Andrew\u2019s College. The right arm medium pacer Loveland ended with match figures of 7\/145, resulting in a 58 run win for St John\u2019s.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second day saw two centurions in the same match. The honours going to St Stithians opener Pranav Raichetti who managed to carry his bat over night, and ended on 110 from 147 balls, which he excellently followed up with 60 from 73 balls in the second innings.\u00a0 . Waterkloof\u2019s <\/span><b>Alexander Volschenk<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> scored a patient 112 from 140 balls. The wicket was fairly flat which resulted in the match panning out to a stalemate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maritzburg openers <\/span><b>Caleb Thomas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Liam Armstrong<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were not quite finished with the hosts piling on an opening stand of 122 from 142 balls, with each scoring 76 from 106 balls and 60 from 63 balls. <\/span><b>Ryan Mckean<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> batted quickly scoring a rapid 78 from 73 balls, to take the match further away from St Davids.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In response St David\u2019s opener <\/span><b>Reece Reddy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> scored from 85 from 88 balls,and was well supported by skipper <\/span><b>Matthew West<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who scored a patient 68 from 99 balls, ensuring that the side were not bowled out in the chase.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Callum Ritchie<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of King Edward VII put in a good all-round performance bagging himself figures of 5\/64 in the Lions Invitational XI second innings, before scoring 70 from 76 balls at a strike-rate of 92.11. KES ended up securing a draw in the process.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jeppe made it difficult for Clifton College after ensuring that they had put a substantial lead on the board after batting well in the second innings. Clifton\u2019s <\/span><b>Shahzaad Perumal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> took 5\/94 making him the only bowler on day two with a five-wicket haul. Jeppe tried hard to push for a win, but were unable to bowl out the opposition, with <\/span><b>Sipho Potsane<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> bowling well for his 3\/38.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although it wasn\u2019t the highest score from any of the matches a gutsy<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">innings of 47* off 141 balls from Clifton\u2019s opener <\/span><b>Muhammed Malek<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, allowed him to soak up the pressure. This resulted in his side fighting for a draw.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The teams will be back tomorrow with not much rest inbetween the games.
