\"\"Brackenfell<\/strong> opened their campaign at the second annual Izuntaba Potch Gimmies<\/strong> Cricket Festival with a strong performance to beat Ho\u00ebrskool Trio<\/strong> despite a big innings of 98 by Louis Boshoff<\/strong> for the team from Kroonstad on a day when runs were hard to come by.<\/p>\n

Boshoff carried Trio to a total of 169, smashing seven sixes along the way, but the Brackenfell bowlers kept all of his teammates from breaching 20.<\/p>\n

After getting the first two wickets for the Capetonians, Luke Hattingh<\/strong> caught Myburgh Jacobs off a delivery from Jean Oosthuizen<\/strong>, before taking the next wicket as well, thus playing a direct role in the first four dismissals, which put the opposition on the back foot early on.<\/p>\n

Later, Hattingh picked up another one to end the day with four wickets and a catch.<\/p>\n

Boshoff’s steady batting kept his team in the game, but the Brackenfell top order was able to chase down the required total in less than 25 overs. Dawson Lombard<\/strong> led the charge with an unbeaten 47.<\/p>\n

Boland Landbou<\/strong> flexed their muscles against Dr EG Jansen, <\/strong>registering a comprehensive 114-run victory.<\/p>\n

Ben la Grange<\/strong> top scored with 63, but it was the boys from the Boland’s bowling attack that was in charge.<\/p>\n

They didn’t concede more than 19 runs to any single Jansies’ batsman. Janco Visagie<\/strong> was the pick of the bowlers, snaring 3\/4 in 7.5 overs.<\/p>\n

Northwood’s <\/strong>Stayers proved too strong for Voortrekker<\/strong> from Bethlehem.<\/p>\n

Batting first, three Northwood batsmen reached their half-centuries. Ross McGlashan<\/strong> stormed to an unbeaten 64 from 69 deliveries, while Tuswa Pheta<\/strong> and Jordan Matthews<\/strong> both also reached the milestone.<\/p>\n

For the Bethlehem boys, Cecil Parsons<\/strong> stood out again. Their big Craven Week prop top scored with 30, while Hendrik Janse van Rensburg<\/strong> almost matched him, contributing 28.<\/p>\n

Stellenberg\u00a0<\/strong>beat\u00a0Glenwood\u00a0<\/strong>by three wickets in their opening match.<\/p>\n

The action continues on Saturday with Ho\u00ebrskool Trio taking on Hans Moore, Brackenfell facing Westville Boys’ High, EG Jansen squaring off against Monument, Boland Landbou challenging Marais Viljoen, the Northwood Stayers team doing battle with Rustenburg and Voortrekker aiming to bounce back against Ho\u00ebrskool Durbanville.<\/p>\n
