{"id":32105,"date":"2023-12-22T16:10:15","date_gmt":"2023-12-22T14:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=32105"},"modified":"2023-12-22T16:10:15","modified_gmt":"2023-12-22T14:10:15","slug":"the-finals-of-the-walter-sisulu-soccer-challenge-are-set","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=32105","title":{"rendered":"The finals of the Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge are set"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-32124\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/football-discovery-challenge-221223-375x500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"533\" \/>u17 Semi-finals\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Superb sub, <strong>Bohloko Neo,<\/strong> struck twice for his team, <strong>Remember Elite Sports Academy<\/strong> <strong>(RESA)<\/strong>, to book a place for the side from Vereeniging in the final of the <strong>Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge<\/strong>, after a 2-1 semifinals&#8217; win over<strong> Musa United FC<\/strong> at the Nike Football Training Centre in Soweto on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>RESA&#8217;s dominance was on full display during their last 16 tie when they stuck seven past <strong>Mokgalakwena Sports and Skills Training<\/strong> <strong>(MSST)<\/strong> in a one-sided 7-1 victory, with a take-no-prisoners performance that was both determined and ruthless.<\/p>\n<p>Goals from the likes of <strong>Sedili Katleho,<\/strong> <strong>Kamohelo Marebetse,<\/strong> <strong>Thando Singo<\/strong> and <strong>Thato Mokgathlanyane<\/strong> saw RESA into the quarterfinals where they then accounted for Crystal All Stars FC.<\/p>\n<p>Their opponents in the title-decider will be <strong>River Park FC<\/strong>, who defeated <strong>The Citizens FC<\/strong> 2-1. <strong>Manyike Rhulani<\/strong> was the star of the show for River Park, matching <strong>Bohloko Neo,<\/strong> with a brace of his own to send his side into the final.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ladies Semi-finals\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the ladies&#8217; semifinals, <strong>Mito Stars<\/strong> played like a well-oiled machine to defeat <strong>Joburg United<\/strong> 3-2. Despite Joburg United taking an early lead through <strong>Lekoni Bontle<\/strong>, it was Stars who controlled proceedings, with <strong>Noxolo Cesane, <\/strong>2022 <strong>Women&#8217;s Africa Cup of Nations<\/strong> with <strong>Banyana Banyana, <\/strong>playing a starring role.<\/p>\n<p>After creating numerous chances, Mito Stars finally equalised through <strong>Kutlwano Maphane.<\/strong> They continued their domination and were rewarded with a goal and the lead by <strong>Mugware Munashe,<\/strong> who troubled the Joburg United defenders throughout the contest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dlamini Mpho<\/strong> then put Mito Stars two goals in the clear before <strong>Maswanganyi Amukenlani<\/strong> netted Joburg United&#8217;s second. They couldn&#8217;t find an equaliser, however.<\/p>\n<p>The final will be a clash between Mito Stars and <strong>Diepkloof Ladies FC<\/strong>, two\u00a0teams who know each other very well. When they met earlier, in the last game of the group stage, it was Mito Stars who emerged victorious by a 2-0 margin.<\/p>\n<p>In their semi-final, Diepkloof Ladies defeated <strong>Molapo Ladies<\/strong> 2-0 to book their place in the showdown for the silverware.<\/p>\n<p>Their passage to the title game looked a little unlikely in an opening half which Molapo dominated.<\/p>\n<p>However, a number of astute substitutions paid dividends for Diepkloof Ladies. <strong>Qhaqeka Lumka<\/strong> opened their account and <strong>Boitumelo Mabojane<\/strong> then scored a cracker to send her side into the final where they will be out to avenge their earlier setback against Mito Stars.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>u17 Semi-finals\u00a0 Superb sub, Bohloko Neo, struck twice for his team, Remember Elite Sports Academy (RESA), to book a place for the side from Vereeniging in the final of the Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge, after a 2-1 semifinals&#8217; win over Musa United FC at the Nike Football Training Centre in Soweto on Friday.
