The locals put up a challenging total of 249, which they defended, thanks in part to the contributions of <strong>Jameel Ismail<\/strong> and <strong>HJ Jones,<\/strong> who took three wickets apiece.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Helpmekaar<\/strong> delivered a dominant performance against <strong>Somerset College<\/strong> in their season-opener. <strong>Anrich Liebenberg<\/strong> (3\/16) and <strong>Waldo Haasbroek<\/strong> (3\/29) helped to contain the local batsmen to a first-innings total of 150.<\/p>\n<p>The batsmen from the Johannesburg school then set about their task with intent, storming to a massive 275\/4 before declaring.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anrich Liebenberg<\/strong>, <strong>Hannu Marais<\/strong> and <strong>Kyle Swanepoel<\/strong> all added half-centuries to their records as they set up a safe buffer before sending out Somerset for their second innings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Henricus Meyer<\/strong> spearheaded the attack in the second outing, claiming 2\/8 as they secured an opening win after Somerset lost their fifth wicket, with the tournament rules deeming the second innings complete after the fifth wicket goes down.<\/p>\n<p>After trailing by 73 on the first innings, <strong>Northcliff<\/strong> produced a spectacular second batting effort to push to within 11 runs of <strong>Curro Durbanville<\/strong>, but the locals managed to defend their lead.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Janr\u00e9 Lourens<\/strong> claimed six wickets and<strong> Caleb Inglis<\/strong> knocked over the other four as the duo wreaked havoc on Northcliff&#8217;s first innings, sending them packing for a meagre 56 runs.<\/p>\n<p>After <strong>Daniyaal Klinck<\/strong> extended Curro&#8217;s lead, the Northcliff batsmen regrouped exceptionally well to score 172 runs before their fifth and final wicket fell, leaving them tantalisingly close to a stunning come-from-behind win.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Logan Groch<\/strong> also took four wickets for<strong> Grey High<\/strong>&#8216;s second team as they defended a low total of 167 to beat the <strong>Brackenfell<\/strong> first team.<\/p>\n<p>Despite an impressive 5\/11 for <strong>Ruvan Barnard<\/strong>, <strong>HTS Drostdy<\/strong>&#8216;s batsmen were unable to cope with <strong>Centurion<\/strong>&#8216;s onslaught as <strong>Logan Fourie<\/strong>&#8216;s 4\/25 helped skittle Drostdy for only 51.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jayden Potgieter<\/strong>&#8216;s unbeaten 51 in Centurion&#8217;s second outing then sealed the deal for the visitors, who made a strong start to the event.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Roxton Payne<\/strong> and <strong>Josh Beck<\/strong> were instrumental in <strong>Westville&#8217;s<\/strong> telling victory over <strong>Garsfontein<\/strong>. The duo combined for seven wickets at the miserly expense of only 22 runs, leaving their <strong>Kaeden McAllister<\/strong> an easy target to pick off.
