{"id":331,"date":"2020-01-22T10:19:06","date_gmt":"2020-01-22T08:19:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cricket.supersportschools.com\/every-game-is-a-semi-final-for-junior-proteas-ahead-of-group-d-clash-against-canada\/"},"modified":"2020-01-22T10:19:06","modified_gmt":"2020-01-22T08:19:06","slug":"every-game-is-a-semi-final-for-junior-proteas-ahead-of-group-d-clash-against-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=331","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Every game is a semi-final\u2019 for Junior Proteas ahead of Group D clash against Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-221\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/NewsGBryceParsons-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"NewsGBryceParsons\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/NewsGBryceParsons-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/NewsGBryceParsons.jpg 692w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>South Africa under-19 assistant coach, Chris van Noordwyk, emphasised the importance of the team\u2019s upcoming matches in pursuit of a place in the ICC under-19 Cricket World Cup super league quarter-finals, starting with the encounter against Canada in Potchefstroom on Wednesday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Following the side\u2019s disappointing seven-wicket defeat in the opening game against Afghanistan, the Junior Proteas will most likely have to secure maximum points in the remaining Group D fixtures to finish in the top two spots.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The SA U19s will end off the group stages with a contest against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday, 25 January at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Speaking to the media at the pre-match training session, Van Noordwyk pointed out that although the Canadians are an unknown quantity, the team feels suitably prepared for what they\u2019ll come up against after getting over the disappointment from the first match.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cIt\u2019s a new game, it\u2019s a new day. We\u2019ve put Afghanistan behind us. We\u2019ve dissected it and we know exactly what we need to do,\u201d Van Noordwyk commented.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cCanada is an unknown quantity to us but we have gone through the footage and they seem to be top-heavy in their batting and we are going to come at them and neutralize that, it\u2019s as simple as that,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In their opening match of the World Cup, Canada suffered an eight-wicket loss to the UAE despite impressing with the bat and posting 231\/8 before the team from the gulf region had Jonathan Figy to thank, who\u2019s unbeaten 102 off 101 balls helped the UAE youngsters chase down the target with 11.2 overs remaining.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cFrom a bowling point of view, we are going to stick to our KPI\u2019s (Key Performance Index) and make sure we are nice and aggressive against them,\u201d Van Noordwyk continued. \u201cWe\u2019ll make sure we compete and that they are going to be very uncomfortable for 50 overs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cFor us, every game is a semi-final but again, we have to look after our processes and make sure our team is in a good space; they\u2019re fresh and their minds are clear.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cAnd that they work towards what we expect from them; the values and the standards that we have set,\u201d he concluded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The contest will take place at the JB Marks Oval from 10h00 (SA time), a ground famous for its quick outfield and high-scoring matches. This is something that the SA U19s captain, Bryce Parsons, is relishing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cIt\u2019s really exciting, playing at this ground,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is known for being one of the quickest outfields in the country, we don\u2019t have to hit the ball too hard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cA big outfield with lots of singles and twos, so it\u2019s a high-scoring ground and we need to be aware of that in the field as well.
