{"id":33529,"date":"2024-01-26T19:13:39","date_gmt":"2024-01-26T17:13:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=33529"},"modified":"2024-01-26T19:13:39","modified_gmt":"2024-01-26T17:13:39","slug":"day-2-st-johnss-dominance-continues-in-makhanda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=33529","title":{"rendered":"DAY 2| St Johns&#8217;s dominance continues in Makhanda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-33541\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/water-polo-hilton-260124-400x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"240\" \/>The second day of the annual <strong>SAC Shield,<\/strong> hosted by <strong>St Andrew&#8217;s College<\/strong> in Makhanda, produced more exhilarating action in the pool, along with championship-defining performances ahead of the looming quarterfinals.<\/p>\n<p>One of the in-form teams at the tournament, <strong>St John&#8217;s College,<\/strong> continued on their prolific run and, although tested, remained unbeaten on the day.<\/p>\n<p>The side from Johannesburg got one over last year&#8217;s champions, <strong>Paul Roos, <\/strong>beating them 10-8 early in the morning in a tightly contested affair. Soon after that, they repeated that scoreline against <strong>Michaelhouse<\/strong>, which took them to five wins in five games after victories against the hosts, Rondebosch Boys&#8217; High, and Westville, which came only after a penalty shootout, on day one.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, St John&#8217;s finished atop Pool B and qualified for the quarterfinals alongside <strong>Rondebosch Boys&#8217; High<\/strong>, <strong>Westville<\/strong>, and <strong>Paul Roos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>St Andrew&#8217;s and Michaelhouse will sit out this year&#8217;s title race.<\/p>\n<p>Final four spots in Pool A, which has one more team that Pool B, are still up for grabs, with three fixtures still to be played on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p>As things stand, <strong>Bishops<\/strong> top the Pool A table with 10 points, with <strong>SACS<\/strong> trailing them by two.<\/p>\n<p>SACS bounced back nicely on day two, playing with flair to score a combined 30 goals in their two matches against a winless <strong>Grey High<\/strong> and <strong>St Stithians College<\/strong> respectively.
