{"id":33597,"date":"2024-01-27T21:01:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-27T19:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=33597"},"modified":"2024-01-27T21:01:00","modified_gmt":"2024-01-27T19:01:00","slug":"day-3clarendon-girls-win-big-on-day-three-of-the-brian-baker-tournament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=33597","title":{"rendered":"DAY 3|Clarendon Girls win big on day three of the Brian Baker Tournament"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_33606\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33606\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-33606\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Brian-Baker-Festival-400x283.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"283\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-33606\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kingswood College 1st Team water polo goalie Julia Hough blocks a shot from Woodridge at Kingswood&#8217;s Brian Baker Tournament.<br \/>Photo: JACKIE CLAUSEN<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Clarendon High School<\/strong> <strong>for Girls<\/strong> defied the odds, on Saturday at the <strong>Brian Baker<\/strong> Water Polo Tournament, by beating the defending champions, <strong>St Stithians College,<\/strong> and in the process booked themselves a spot in the semi-finals of the spectacle being hosted by <strong>Kingswood College<\/strong> in <strong>Makhanda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The team from East London went into the tournament carrying the label of &#8220;dark horses&#8221; and lived up to that billing by prevailing against some of South Africa&#8217;s best sides on day three to seal themselves a place in the final four.<\/p>\n<p>They were drawn in Pool C, alongside <strong>St Dominic&#8217;s<\/strong>, <strong>Durban Girls&#8217; College<\/strong>, <strong>Reddam House Bedfordview <\/strong>and <strong>Alex Road<\/strong>\u00a0and, after a rather unconvincing showing in the pool stages, <strong>Hannah Muller<\/strong>&#8216;s charges found their form to make waves in the playoffs.<\/p>\n<p>In the pool stages, they lost two of their four matches, but they turned their fortunes around when the chips were down, beginning with that 12-11 upset win over Saints.<\/p>\n<p>They went on outplay the hosts, Kingswood College, 13-7 in the quarterfinals. Those impressive performances procured them a semi-final showdown with <strong>Reddam House Constantia<\/strong> on Sunday at 08:00.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the other semi-finalists are the impressive and unbeaten <strong>Roedean School<\/strong> and Stellenbosch&#8217;s <strong>Herschel Girls<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>St Stithians College will be massively disappointed by their showing at the tournament and will contest the 9<sup>th<\/sup>\/10<sup>th<\/sup> playoff against <strong>Durban Girls&#8217; College<\/strong> at 10:00 in the DSG Pool.<\/p>\n<p>The bottom four positions were also confirmed, with <strong>Alex Road<\/strong> finishing last and <strong>Stirling High <\/strong>in 19<sup>th<\/sup>, while Hudson Park&#8217;s 7-2 win over Woodridge College earned them 17<sup>th<\/sup> place.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday&#8217;s action in the main pool commences at 10:00, with the final scheduled for 12:00.
