{"id":33898,"date":"2024-02-01T08:41:34","date_gmt":"2024-02-01T06:41:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=33898"},"modified":"2024-02-01T08:41:34","modified_gmt":"2024-02-01T06:41:34","slug":"bishops-remain-unbeaten-rondebosch-defuse-sacs-in-night-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=33898","title":{"rendered":"Bishops remain unbeaten, Rondebosch defuse SACS in Night Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-33903\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/water-polo-bishops-010224-400x253.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"253\" \/>Bishop Diocesan College<\/strong> maintained its unbeaten record in the <strong>SACS Night Series<\/strong> with a 16-9 defeat of <strong>Paul Roos Gimnasium<\/strong> in round two of the tournament in Cape Town on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Both sides entered the showdown off the back of hard-fought campaigns at the <a href=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/day-4-sacs-come-from-behind-to-clinch-sac-shield-in-epic-final\/\"><strong>SAC Shield<\/strong><\/a> in Makhanda, where Paul Roos claimed fifth place, while Bishops lost 10-11 in the final against <a href=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/day-1-sac-shield-off-to-a-blistering-start-in-makhanda\/\">SACS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>They were also among the winners in the opening round, in which Bishops shocked SACS 11-5 and Paul Roos thumped <strong>Wynberg<\/strong> 11-6.<\/p>\n<p>The Bishops versus Paul Roos clash got off to a flying start, with both sides trading goals in quick succession, which left them level at 3-3 after the first chukka.<\/p>\n<p>Bishops, then, came out firing in the second chukka, and gained the upper hand, scoring a further three goals courtesy of an <strong>Owen Cross<\/strong> double, and a goal by <strong>Bryn Parry<\/strong> to go into half-time 6-3 to the good.<\/p>\n<p>There was very little to separate the teams early in the third chukka, as both goalkeepers, <strong>Nicholas Ward<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Jordan de Sousa,<\/strong> remained resolute and firm between the sticks.<\/p>\n<p>Bishops, however, created more chances and found their goal-scoring touch once more, scoring a further five goals through Parry by the end of the contest, while <strong>Tim Young<\/strong>, and captain <strong>Ross Stewart<\/strong> netted twice each to complete their hattricks, much to the delight of head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/bishops-set-night-series-opener-alight-and-shock-sacs\/\"><strong>Jabulani Sibiya<\/strong><\/a> in the dugout.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Roos continued working hard and kept themselves in the match, down by three goals at the end of the third quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Try as they might, though <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/new-season-same-goals-for-paul-roos-as-sac-shield-looms\/\">Vaughn Marlow<\/a>&#8216;<\/strong>s side couldn&#8217;t break the Bishops&#8217; wall, and despite impressive late cameos by<strong> Juan-Paul Germishuis<\/strong>, and <strong>Migael Terblanche<\/strong>, the damage had already been done, leading to the Stellenbosch school&#8217;s first defeat of the tournament.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In other matches<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There was a surprise in the second match of the day as <strong>Rondebosch Boys High<\/strong> handed SACS their second straight defeat of the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>The win for <strong>Jared Wingate<\/strong>\u2019s team comes after they achieved an impressive fourth-place finish at the SAC Shield.
