The 48th<\/sup> edition<\/strong> of the Vides Water Polo Tournament,<\/strong> hosted by Selborne College in East London over the weekend, concluded with Clifton College<\/strong> downing Paul Roos Gymnasium<\/strong> in a tense penalty shootout to claim their first piece of silverware in 2024.<\/p>\n

Both entered the title-decider unbeaten after dominating runs through their pools. Together, they scored\u00a0a combined 86 goals in pool games, while conceding less than 30, heading into the playoffs.<\/p>\n

There was also very little to separate the sides in the final with the game ending at 7-7 after four chukkas. Oliver Ditz’<\/strong>s penalty goal then proved to be the difference during the penalty shoot-out after Paul Roos missed two shots from the spot.<\/p>\n

The excellent showing of both sides was reflected in the Team of the Tournament<\/strong>, which was announced after the final.<\/p>\n

Both had four players named in the side, with Clifton\u2019s skipper, Oliver Ditz headlining the team after also being named the Player of the Tournament<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

He was joined in the squad by his goalkeeper, Ross Strauss<\/strong>, Nathan Burger<\/strong>, and Luc O’Brien<\/strong>, who matched Ditz by scoring a hattrick in the final.<\/p>\n

Paul Roos goalkeeper Nicholas Ward<\/strong> was included in the 15-player lineup, alongside his teammates, Adam October<\/strong>, and the prolific goal scorers, Migael Terblanche<\/strong>, and Arkin Marias<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Selborne College had three of their standouts named in the team. They finished third and\u00a0Liam Hansen<\/strong>, Sam van de Venter<\/strong>, and Dominic Stegman <\/strong>all cracked the nod.<\/p>\n

Fourth place finishers, Reddam House Constantia<\/strong> had Jethro Montague-Fryer<\/strong> and one of the Brown brothers, Adam, included. Meanwhile, Jack Brady,<\/strong> from St David’s Marist Inanda, and Benjamin Melville,<\/strong> from St Alban’s College, were also recognised.<\/p>\n

In the special awards category, Nicholas Ward scooped up the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament<\/strong>. Meanwhile, the Best Attacker Award<\/strong> was given to Liam Hansen<\/a>, and the Best Defender<\/strong> went to Migael Terblanche, with Oliver Ditz claiming the Player of the Tournament<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
