\"\"The 41st<\/sup> edition of the Standard Bank<\/strong> King Edward VII Water Polo Tournament<\/strong> will provide St John\u2019s College <\/strong>with an opportunity to win a record 10th<\/sup> KES title. The action at the Mark Stevens Aquatics Centre<\/strong> starts early on Friday morning.<\/p>\n

The three-day tournament will see the best water polo playing schools in the country assemble in one arena as the season draws to its conclusion, and all the action is live on SuperSport Schools<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It’s one of the biggest tournaments in the country, especially when the calibre of teams in attendance is taken into account.<\/p>\n

The winners of the past two editions, St John’s<\/strong>, have been seeded in Pool D, which also includes Northwood<\/strong>, St Andrew’s College<\/strong>, and Paul Roos Gymnasium<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

To claim top honours in 2023, the Johannesburg side had to take an extended route to the final after a rough start to their pool matches.<\/p>\n

They picked themselves up and edged out Hilton College<\/strong> 13-12 in the semi-finals before defeating their rivals, St Stithians College,<\/strong> in the final.<\/p>\n

This year’s tournament will, however, be even more challenging, with most of the teams on the roster high in confidence and playing an attractive brand of water polo.<\/p>\n

From the Western Cape, South African College High School<\/strong>\u00a0(SACS), and Bishops Diocesan College<\/strong> are two of the teams to watch out for. They met in the final of the SAC Shield<\/strong> at the end of January, with SACS sneaking one past their opponents, who had previously beaten them in the SACS Night Series<\/strong> and earlier in the SAC Shield.<\/p>\n

SACS are drawn in Pool B, where they will take on Jeppe High<\/strong>, Hilton College<\/strong>, and Selborne College,<\/strong> who recently ended their Vides Tournament<\/strong><\/a> in third place.<\/p>\n

SACS are also the most successful Cape Town side in the history of the tournament, having won it four times, while Rondebosch<\/strong>\u00a0and Reddam House Constantia <\/strong>have won it once each.<\/p>\n

Another side that will be looking to make its presence felt during the weekend is Clifton College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The KwaZulu-Natal representatives enter the tournament high in confidence after dominating matters in an excellent showing at the Vides Tournament in East London a fortnight ago.<\/p>\n

Coach Paul Martin<\/strong>\u2019s side was unbeaten in the round-robin matches and then eliminated the hosts in the semi-finals before edging out Paul Roos<\/strong> in a penalty shootout to claim the trophy.<\/p>\n

They’ll be attempting to win a second KES title, following in the footsteps of their 2016 side. They take on the hosts, Rondebosch Boys’ High<\/strong>, and Gqeberha’s Grey High School <\/strong>in Pool A.<\/p>\n

St Stithians College and Pretoria Boys High<\/strong> will renew their rivalry in Pool C, where they’ll battle Westville Boys’ High<\/strong> and Bishops<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The action commences on Friday when KES takes on Rondebosch at 07:00.<\/p>\n

SACS versus Selborne College is at 10:20, while Clifton College closes day one against Grey High at 19:30.<\/p>\n
