{"id":36431,"date":"2024-03-01T21:13:19","date_gmt":"2024-03-01T19:13:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=36431"},"modified":"2024-03-01T21:13:19","modified_gmt":"2024-03-01T19:13:19","slug":"day-1-kes-cape-sides-set-the-early-pace-in-johannesburg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=36431","title":{"rendered":"DAY 1 | KES | Cape sides set the early pace in Johannesburg"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_36432\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36432\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-36432\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/the-one--400x267.jpg\" alt=\"Picture credits: TeamPhoto SA\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-36432\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong><em>Picture credits: TeamPhoto SA<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>South African College High School<\/strong> (SACS), <strong>Bishops Diocesan College<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Rondebosch Boys High<\/strong> all picked up two wins apiece to make impressive winning starts to their campaigns on the opening day of the <strong>Standard Bank King Edward VII Water Polo Tournament<\/strong> at the <strong>Mark Stevens Aquatic<\/strong> <strong>Centre<\/strong> on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The three Cape sides and the defending champions, <strong>St John&#8217;s College,<\/strong> were dominant, dismantling their opposition to take early command of their groups ahead of the second day&#8217;s action They each have six points.<\/p>\n<p>Rondebosch Boys opened the day&#8217;s proceedings by rolling to a 10-4 win over the hosts, <strong>KES<\/strong>. \u00a0They next went on to take down the recent winners of the <a href=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/day-3-vides-dominant-clifton-edge-out-paul-roos-for-the-title\/\">Vides Water Polo Tournament<\/a>, <strong>Clifton College, <\/strong>in a tightly contested affair, winning 12-8.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Luke Burger<\/strong> was the standout player for the Cape side, scoring eight goals in their two matches, while <strong>Bradley Warneke<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Noah Reiback<\/strong> also produced strong performances.<\/p>\n<p>Bishops entered the festival on a high after beating SACS 14-11 to claim the<strong> SACS Nite Series<\/strong> title earlier in the week, and there were no signs of a hangover for coach <strong>Jabulani Sibiya&#8217;<\/strong>s men, as they powered their way past Pretoria Boys High and <strong>Westville Boys&#8217; High<\/strong>, scoring a combined 29 goals in those two matches.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matt Fenn<\/strong>, who netted seven goals, and was named the MVP of the Nite Series final, continued his prolific goalscoring form, netting eight times.<\/p>\n<p>Bishops tackle St Stithians College in their final Pool C clash on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, SACS will be breathing a sigh of relief after almost going down in their second outing of the day against Hilton College.<\/p>\n<p>After beating <strong>Selborne College<\/strong> 15-10 earlier in the day, coach <strong>Devon Card&#8217;<\/strong>s side dropped the ball in their later encounter against a hungry Hilton side.<\/p>\n<p>Jason Sileno&#8217;s charges went blow-for-blow with SACS, and the lead changed hands a number of times, with both <strong>Hanu Pieterse<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Tristan Uys<\/strong> scoring hattricks to keep the KZN boys in the contest.<\/p>\n<p>The experience of SACS bore fruit, however, as they pulled themselves out of a nervy situation and scraped a narrow 10-9 victory, thanks to spirited efforts from <strong>Nicholas Fall<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Jandro Rojo-Ross<\/strong>, who also scored hattricks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>St John&#8217;s<\/strong> <strong>College <\/strong>was, by far, the best of the local teams, going about their business in a mature and effective manner.<\/p>\n<p>Their wins, against <strong>Northwood<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Paul Roos<\/strong>, have them atop Pool D, with a final pool clash against <strong>St Andrew&#8217;s College<\/strong> beckoning on day two.<\/p>\n<p>The second day begins with a high-octane clash between KES And Clifton College at <strong>07:00<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Selborne and Hilton College will be chasing second spot in Pool B when they meet at 11:10.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <strong>Vaughn Marlow&#8217;<\/strong>s Paul Roos will be aiming for a win over Northwood in their last Pool D outing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>All the action is LIVE on the <a href=\"https:\/\/live.supersportschools.com\/category\/606f65f91eea03755e56797c\/sub-category\/63ff3728a85628e047930be3\/\">SuperSport Schools App<\/a>, and DSTV Channel 216. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Results: Day 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rondebosch Boys High 10-4 King Edward VII<br \/>\nHilton College 15-9 Jeppe Boys High<br \/>\nSt Stithians 12 (3)-12(2) Westville Boys<br \/>\nSt John&#8217;s 17-10 Northwood<br \/>\nSACS 15-10 Selborne College<br \/>\nBishops 16-4 Pretoria Boys High<br \/>\nPaul Roos 12-7 St Andrew&#8217;s College<br \/>\nKing Edward VII 12-8 Grey High<br \/>\nSelborne College 12-10 Jeppe Boys High<br \/>\nBishops 13-11 Westville<br \/>\nSt Andrew&#8217;s College 14-6 Northwood<br \/>\nRondebosch 12-8 Clifton College<br \/>\nSACS 10-9 Hilton<br \/>\nSt Stithians College 17-12 Pretoria Boys High<br \/>\nSt John&#8217;s 10-6 Paul Roos<br \/>\nClifton College 10-5 Grey High<\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 2, Saturday, 2 March <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>07:00 &#8211;<\/strong> King Edward VII vs Clifton College (17);
