{"id":36874,"date":"2024-03-08T07:09:59","date_gmt":"2024-03-08T05:09:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=36874"},"modified":"2024-03-08T07:09:59","modified_gmt":"2024-03-08T05:09:59","slug":"all-eyes-on-gdl-weekend-fixtures-after-teenagers-star-in-the-psl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=36874","title":{"rendered":"All eyes on GDL weekend fixtures after teenagers star in the PSL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-36877 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2024-03-07-at-11.41.19-400x335.jpeg\" alt=\"Relebohile Mofokeng of Orlando Pirates &amp; Siviwe Nkwali of Sekhukhune United\" width=\"400\" height=\"335\" \/>Development football is in the spotlight this weekend following the <strong>DStv Premiership<\/strong> mid-week fixtures where a number of teenagers put on a show in the country&#8217;s top-flight competition.<\/p>\n<p>One of those youngsters was 19-year-old <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wandile-duba-from-lighting-up-the-gdl-to-scoring-winners-in-the-psl\/\">Wandile Dube<\/a><\/strong>, who was named in the starting line-up for the mighty Soweto giants, <strong>Kaizer Chiefs<\/strong>, and repaid coach <strong>Cavin Johnson<\/strong>&#8216;s faith in him by scoring a screamer to secure a 1-0 home win for the Amakhosi over Golden Arrows.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Relebohile Mofokeng<\/strong>, also 19 years of age, started and netted a goal for <strong>Orlando Pirates<\/strong> in their mid-week 1-1 draw with <strong>Cape Town Spurs<\/strong>, while <strong>Siviwe Nkwali (18) <\/strong>and <strong>Asekho Tiwani (18)<\/strong> graced the Premiership stage for Spurs and Sekhukhune United respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Two more teenagers, <strong>Luphumlo Sifumba (18)<\/strong> and <strong>Shakeel April (18), <\/strong>also bagged crucial minutes on the Premiership stage, turning out for <strong>Cape Town City<\/strong> in a 0-1 loss to <strong>Stellenbosch Football Club<\/strong> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>In the wake of the big-time performances of those teenagers, all eyes, this weekend, will be on the <strong>Gauteng Development League (GDL)<\/strong>, where most of those youngsters honed their skills in preparation for professional football.<\/p>\n<p>Catch all the action live on <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/SSSfootball2024\"><strong>SuperSport Schools<\/strong> <\/a>(<a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/SSSfootball2024\">www.supersportschools.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Among the players that will be on show in the GDL is <strong>SuperSport United<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Benjamin Wallis<\/strong>, the captain of the under-19 side from Pretoria, who leads his charges against the defending champions of the division, <strong>Highlands Park<\/strong>, at <strong>Eskom Megawatt Park<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Wallis will be alongside the reliable <strong>Kemorapedi Ngwato<\/strong> and <strong>Kagiso Mogokolo<\/strong>, while the promising duo of <strong>Keitumetse Lecia<\/strong> and <strong>Manelisi Mazibuko<\/strong> will also be out to deny &#8220;The Lions of the North&#8221; their first three-point haul of the season.<\/p>\n<p>A majority of the SuperSport United u19 players already have experience in the semi-professional <strong>DStv Diski Challenge<\/strong>, which will give them confidence that they can handle whatever the defending champions throw at them. However, Highlands Park u19s have the repertoire to make the encounter a closely contested battle between two of the best sides in the division.<\/p>\n<p>In other fixtures, <strong>Tuks<\/strong> will go up against <strong>East Rand Athletic Club<\/strong> at the <strong>University of Pretoria Campus<\/strong> on Saturday, while <strong>TS Galaxy<\/strong> welcomes <strong>Wits Junior<\/strong> at <strong>Sandown High School<\/strong> on the same day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mamelodi Sundowns<\/strong> travel to the <strong>Randburg Sports Complex<\/strong> to face <strong>Randburg AFC<\/strong>, while <strong>Sevens Academy<\/strong> takes on <strong>Joburg City<\/strong> at the <strong>Alberton Football Club <\/strong>facilities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rosina Sedibane<\/strong> and <strong>Remember Elite<\/strong> host <strong>Kaizer Chiefs<\/strong> and <strong>Kathorus Hype<\/strong>r at the <strong>Rosina Sedibane<\/strong> and <strong>President Park Stadium<\/strong> respectively.<\/p>\n<p>In the last of Saturday&#8217;s fixtures, <strong>Panorama FC<\/strong> welcomes the newbies, <strong>NWU Vaal<\/strong>, to the <strong>Panorama Sports Ground<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sunday Fixtures<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>School of Excellence vs Jomo Cosmos at Elandsfontein.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Development football is in the spotlight this weekend following the DStv Premiership mid-week fixtures where a number of teenagers put on a show in the country&#8217;s top-flight competition.
