{"id":37114,"date":"2024-03-10T09:02:54","date_gmt":"2024-03-10T07:02:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=37114"},"modified":"2024-03-10T09:02:54","modified_gmt":"2024-03-10T07:02:54","slug":"gauteng-illuminated-by-the-brilliance-of-womens-football","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=37114","title":{"rendered":"Gauteng illuminated by the brilliance of women&#8217;s football"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-34829 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/393314149_300513472739522_7044029607254439442_n-400x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A total of 16 <strong>SAFA Gauteng<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Sasol League<\/strong> and eight <strong>Gauteng Women&#8217;s Development League (GWDL)<\/strong> football clubs assembled at the <strong>Panorama Football Club<\/strong> in <strong>Roodeport<\/strong> on Saturday to kickstart the women&#8217;s football season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inaugural edition of the GWDL Top 8 Championship\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the start of the GWDL&#8217;s second season, the GWDL Top 8 did not disappoint.<\/p>\n<p>In one of the highlights of the day, the champions of the inaugural GWDL, <strong>Mamelodi Sundowns<\/strong>, went two goals down to <strong>Origin FC<\/strong>.\u00a0Undaunted, <strong>Banyana Ba Style<\/strong> went on to show why they are the champions, fighting back to score four goals to win an incredible game 4-2.<\/p>\n<p>That victory secured a semi-final place for Sundowns, who will face <strong>Remember Elite Sports Academy (RESA)<\/strong> in the final four after RESA cruised to a 3-0 win over the home team, <strong>Panorama FC<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lesedi Motaung<\/strong>, whose nickname of <strong>Mochini Wa Di Goal<\/strong>, translated into English means &#8220;Goal Machine&#8221;, bagged a hattrick.<\/p>\n<p><strong>JVW<\/strong>, the runners-up of the inaugural GWDL, will face <strong>Highlands Park<\/strong>, who finished third, in the other semi-final.<\/p>\n<p>JVW thumped <strong>Tornado FC<\/strong> 4-0, while Highlands Park clawed their way through after a stern challenge from <strong>Tuks<\/strong>. The teams played to a 2-2 draw before Highlands Park claimed the win 5-4 from the penalty spot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SAFA Gauteng Sasol League Pre-games<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Among the Sasol fixtures, the most entertaining game was fairly one-sided, with <strong>Diepkloof Ladies FC (DK)<\/strong> overrunning <strong>Wits University<\/strong> 6-0. A hattrick from <strong>Unathi Mjijwa<\/strong>, a brace from <strong>Ntando Ntamane,<\/strong> and <strong>Gcinokuhle Sikhakhane&#8217;s<\/strong> goal, sealed a big victory for DK Ladies, who will face JVW&#8217;s Sasol League outfit in the semis.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_37150\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-37150\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-37150 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/399050676_305690338981017_6764033345800332000_n-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-37150\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Diepkloof Ladies during the annual Gauteng Women&#8217;s Soccer Tournament. Photo: Mondli Dube<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>DK Ladies have established themselves as the pacesetters in Gauteng women&#8217;s football after a superb 2023 season in which they completed a <a href=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/the-thrill-of-victory-diepkloof-ladies-fc-make-it-three-on-the-trot\/\">treble.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>More thrilling semi-final action awaits when <strong>Mito Stars<\/strong> and <strong>Kempton Park FC<\/strong> meet for a place in the gold medal game.<\/p>\n<p>Kempton Park FC defeated <strong>Viking Ladies<\/strong> 3-1 to reach the semi-finals.
