Westville kept clean sheets in both of their day one matches at the Coastal Cup in wins over Pearson and Paarl Boys’ High.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The 2024 Coastal Cup<\/strong> got off to a cracking start in Durban on Friday, with newcomers, Menlopark<\/strong>, making their mark in the opener by handing Glenwood<\/strong> a 4-0 defeat.<\/p>\n

Later, however, the Pretoria side was on the wrong end of a similar scoreline when they went down to Pearson High School<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Glenwood will hope for a better day on Saturday, after they lost both of their first-day clashes. Their second match, against St Alban’s College<\/strong>, went the Gauteng side’s way by a 2-0 margin.<\/p>\n

Westville Boys’ High<\/strong> enjoyed an impressive first day, winning an arm wrestle against Pearson<\/strong> by a goal to nil – the sides had drawn 3-3 at last year’s event – and then beating Paarl Boys’ High<\/strong> 2-0.<\/p>\n

Durban High School (DHS)<\/strong> cruised to a convincing 5-1 win over St Alban’s and then edged out Garsfontein<\/strong> 1-0, while Clifton College<\/strong> and Garsfontein played to a 1-1 draw around midday. In the evening, Clifton downed Waterkloof<\/strong> 2-1.<\/p>\n

After going a goal down, Garsfontein levelled against Clifton from a penalty corner that left goalkeeper Georg Wolhuter well beaten.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In the u16 age group, DHS bagged a 5-1 win over St Alban’s and followed up with a 2-1 victory over Garsfontein. Paarl also dominated, recording 3-1 wins over Waterkloof and Westville 3-1. The Menlopark Juniors were held in a 2-2 draw by Glenwood and were beaten 2-1 by Pearson.<\/p>\n

There were some high-scoring u14 games, with Paarl Boys’ High sneaking a 5-4 win over Waterkloof and Menlopark sharing a 4-4 draw with Glenwood. Westville Boys’ High, though, were imperious, notching two 4-0 victories, over Pearson and Paarl Boys’ High respectively.<\/p>\n

Saturday’s action begins with the Garsfontein 1st team taking on Glenwood, while DHS battles Menlopark in the u16 competition, and Paarl takes on Pearson will open the u-14 clash.<\/p>\n
