Photo: Belgotex Sport Easter Hockey Tournament.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Paarl Gimnasium<\/strong>, <strong>Somerset College<\/strong>, <strong>Fairmont High School<\/strong>, <strong>Stellenberg<\/strong>, <strong>Worcester Gymnasium, <\/strong>alongside<strong> Windhoek High School <\/strong>were the only teams that recorded two victories on the opening day of the <strong>Belgotex Sport Easter Hockey Tournament<\/strong> in Cape Town.<\/p>\n<p>The tournament welcomed 80 boys&#8217; and girls&#8217; schools from across South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>To accommodate the massive numbers, matches are being played at eight venues, including the <strong>Hartleyvale A<\/strong> and <strong>B<\/strong> Astro turfs, <strong>Pinelands<\/strong>, <strong>Rustenburg Girls&#8217;<\/strong>, <strong>SACS<\/strong>, <strong>Wynberg A<\/strong> and <strong>B<\/strong>, and the <strong>University of Cape Town (UCT)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the boys&#8217; section, the SACS Invitational side kicked matters off with a 2-0 win over Hugenote. That was followed by a 1-1 draw between Bridge House, and DF Malan.<\/p>\n<p>Last year&#8217;s winners, <strong>Paarl Gimnasium<\/strong> were soon in action at the UCT Astro, and blasted past <strong>Belville High<\/strong>, scoring 12 unanswered goals. <strong>Juan Swanepoel<\/strong> netted four times, while <strong>LD Nel<\/strong>, <strong>Rikus de Kock<\/strong> and <strong>Neil De Wet<\/strong> claimed doubles. Solitary goals from <strong>Stefan Wiehahn <\/strong>and <strong>Stephan Pieterse <\/strong>completed the scoring.<\/p>\n<p>The side from Paarl followed up that win with a comfortable 5-0 triumph over <strong>Ho\u00ebrskool Nelspruit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Somerset College<\/strong>, another of the top challengers from the Western Cape, didn\u2019t disappoint. They took their opportunities well to grab the Pool D lead.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Coach Mick Ouwerkerk<\/strong>&#8216;s boys entered the tournament on the back of a mixed bag of results at the <strong>Bishops 175 Hockey Festival<\/strong> last weekend.<\/p>\n<p>They showed they had put any issues behind them by demolishing <strong>The Settlers<\/strong> <strong>High School<\/strong> 8-0, with\u00a0<strong>Michael Du Toit<\/strong>, <strong>Tyrone Rieth<\/strong>, and <strong>Luke Limbert<\/strong> all netting braces, and <strong>Travis Coenraad<\/strong>, and <strong>Connor Murphy<\/strong> striking, too, to make it eight.<\/p>\n<p>In their second outing, Somerset defeated <strong>Ho\u00ebrskool Rustenburg<\/strong> 1-0.\u00a0On Thursday, they take on <strong>Kingswood College<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Windhoek Gymnasium<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Pool E lead belongs to Durbanville&#8217;s <strong>Fairmont High School<\/strong>. They were well prepared for the tournament after playing in the <strong>York Easter Hockey Festival<\/strong> in George last week.\u00a0There, Fairmont won three of their five matches, drew one, and went down 0-1 to <strong>York High<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>They were back on a winning track quickly on Wednesday, however, scoring a tight 3-2 win over <strong>Stellenbosch High School <\/strong>in their opener.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kyle Maclean&#8217;s pair<\/strong>\u00a0and a <strong>Thomas Day<\/strong> goal sealed the win, despite Martin Botha scoring twice for Stellies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stellenberg<\/strong> and <strong>Worcester Gymnasium<\/strong> sit atop Pools F and G respectively after picking up two wins apiece.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_39443\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39443\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-39443\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/BEHT-SACS-Ray-Match1-16-400x267.jpg\" alt=\" Photo: Belgotex Sport Easter Hockey Tournament\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-39443\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Belgotex Sport Easter Hockey Tournament<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The SACS invitational team and <strong>Stirling High<\/strong> will need to lift their games on day two if they are to take over the top spot in Pool A, which is currently occupied by Namibia&#8217;s <strong>Private School Swakopmund<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After a win and a draw against <strong>DF Malan<\/strong>, <strong>Outeniqua<\/strong> leads Pool B. Their Thursday schedule includes matches against Zimbabwe&#8217;s <strong>St John\u2019s College<\/strong>, and <strong>Bridge House<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Pool H hangs in the balance.
