The front-runners in the girls’ section of the Belgotex Sport Easter Hockey Tournament<\/strong> were quickly revealed on the opening day in Cape Town on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

A total of 12 teams picked up two wins each, including Middelburg<\/strong>, DF Malan<\/strong>, Ho\u00ebrskool\u00a0Nelspruit<\/strong>, Paarl Gimnasium<\/strong>, Fairmont High<\/strong>, Somerset College<\/strong>, Stellenberg<\/strong>, Rustenburg Girls’<\/strong>, Outeniqua<\/strong>, Penryn College<\/strong>, Northcliff High<\/strong>, and Namibia’s Windhoek Gymnasium.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They will all be aiming to secure their places in the playoffs after Thursday’s matches.<\/p>\n

The annual tournament, which is hosted at eight different venues, lived up to the opening day hype, with some interesting results being produced, including a couple of shocks.<\/p>\n

Last year’s winners, Monument High School<\/strong>, who were drawn in Pool G, found the going tricky, winning one match and drawing their second fixture at the Rustenburg Astroturf.<\/p>\n

They beat Belville High School<\/strong> 2-0, with Keila Meyer<\/strong>\u00a0and Hannah Smyth<\/strong> getting onto the scoresheet, but they were then held to a 0-0 draw by Kingswood College. <\/strong>On Thursday, Monnas face Stellenbosch High School<\/strong> and Wynberg Girls’<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

East London’s Hudson Park High<\/strong>, despite a win and a loss, will feel they’re still in with a shot at finishing first in their pool.<\/p>\n

Jordyn Wilson<\/strong> struck four times in their opening encounter, a 6-0 drubbing of Hugenote<\/strong>, which also included goals from Inathi Lubelwana<\/strong> and Busiwe Mayekiso<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Next time out, though, they went down 1-3 to Middelburg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Woodridge College<\/strong> lies second in Pool B, while Stirling High School<\/strong> is third in Pool C. They’ll be aiming to make Thursday moving day.<\/p>\n

Stirling goes up against Rustenburg Girls’ and St George’s Diocesan School<\/strong>, while Woodridge battles DF Malan<\/strong>\u00a0and Pro-Ed Akademie<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

With playoff places on the line, all-out goal-scoring action is the forecast for day two.<\/p>\n
