Paarl Gimnasium<\/strong>, Monument, <\/strong>and Woodridge College<\/strong> still have a chance of going all the way in the Belgotex Sport Easter Hockey Festival<\/strong> after making it through to the Cup quarterfinals of the tournament in Cape Town on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Those three sides finished top of their respective pools after picking up two impressive victories each on day two.<\/p>\n

Last year’s winners, Monument, will take on an in-form Stellenberg<\/strong> side in their last eight fixture. Paarl Gim will face Rustenburg Girls’<\/strong>, and Woodridge takes on Middelburg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the remaining fixture will be contested by Outeniqua <\/strong>and Somerset College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

After recording a win and a draw in the first two matches of their title defence, against Belville High<\/strong>\u00a0and Kingswood College<\/strong>, Monument entered day two knowing they had to win at all costs.<\/p>\n

Coach Robin Franklin’<\/strong>s side kick-started their day in the best way possible, dominating proceedings to overpower Stellenbosch High 6-0. Keila Meyer<\/strong>, Danike Redpath<\/strong>, Lanali van der Merwe<\/strong>, Shawna Botha<\/strong>, and Hannah Smyth<\/strong>, with a brace, sealed the win for the Krugersdorp side.<\/p>\n

Later in the day, they defeated another Western Cape side, outscoring Wynberg Girls’<\/strong> 3-1. Smyth struck twice again, while Marseille Nel<\/strong> also got her name on the score sheet.<\/p>\n

Woodridge were accurate in front of the goal and that accuracy landed the Eastern Cape side a quarterfinal spot.<\/p>\n

They scored a total of eight goals on Thursday – four against both DF Malan<\/strong> and Pro-Ed Akademie<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Against DF, it was Anna Kirsten<\/strong>, Jemma Maartens<\/strong>, Georgia Kilfoil<\/strong>, and Daniella Smith<\/strong> on the score sheet. Then, it was the turn of Reece Foreman<\/strong>, Emilee Tinderholm<\/strong>, and Dane Strydom<\/strong>, who\u00a0grabbed a pair, against Pro-Ed.<\/p>\n

The Paarl Gimnasium girls, just like their male counterparts, have appeared to be a cut above the rest during the festival, and Thursday was no different.<\/p>\n

They never got out of first gear but still beat Ho\u00ebrskool Rustenburg<\/strong> 1-0. They followed that up with a 3-0 victory over Windhoek Gymnasium<\/strong> to finish atop Pool D.<\/p>\n

Among the fixtures on the third day of the festival will be Hudson Park<\/strong> against DF Malan in one of the Plate quarterfinals.<\/p>\n

Stirling High<\/strong> will contest the Shield quarterfinals, where they will take on Ho\u00ebrskool Rustenburg. After missing out on the top spot in their pool, Fairmont<\/strong> meets Durbanville<\/strong> in the other Plate quarterfinal, while Kingswood<\/strong> and York<\/strong> are set to meet in the Shield category.<\/p>\n

The Cup quarterfinals will be played at Hartleyvale A<\/strong> and B<\/strong> astro turfs and start as early as 11:30.<\/p>\n
