The Gauteng inter-schools’ hockey season got off to a sizzling start over the weekend, with 28 goals scored in eight matches.<\/p>\n

The action started on Friday night, when Ho\u00ebrskool Waterkloof<\/strong>, Pretoria Boys High<\/strong>, and Jeppe High <\/strong>registered wins against Transvalia<\/strong>, St Alban’s College<\/strong>, and St Stithians College<\/strong> respectively.<\/p>\n

Waterkloof edged Transvalia 3-2 in a tightly contested clash in Pretoria.<\/p>\n

After trailing for most of the first chukka, Klofies showed composure and got themselves back into the match courtesy of a Jordan Abbott<\/strong> strike.<\/p>\n

They doubled their tally in the second chukka through Xander Kleynhans<\/strong> and went into half-time leading 2-1.<\/p>\n

Adriaan Botha<\/strong> quickly made it three in the third chukka, and despite Transvalia\u2019s never-say-die attitude, coach Mark Lamprecht’<\/strong>s side held on for the win.<\/p>\n

Pretoria Boys High will also be happy with their performance after grinding out a 2-1 win against their old foes, St Alban’s.<\/p>\n

Backed by their vibrant home supporters, coach Jacques Klopper’<\/strong>s team was made to work hard for the win, but Marco Upton<\/strong> netted twice to seal the victory for his side. The St Alban’s goal was scored by Liam Basch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In Kensington, on the Boden Astroturf, Jeppe <\/strong>recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win over a tough St Stithians College<\/strong> team.<\/p>\n

Jeppe entered the clash on the back of mixed results at the Nomads Hockey Festival<\/strong> and the KES Easter Hockey Festival<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, they were solid at the back, keeping the team who beat them in the final of the Aitken Cup in 2023 off the scoreboard, while Juan Martin <\/strong>scored the all-important only goal of the contest.<\/p>\n

The action moved on to Saturday, with the fixtures including a n exciting derby between neighbours, King Edward VII<\/strong> (KES)<\/strong> and St John’s College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As expected, it was a tough outing for both teams, with fortunes in the game ebbing and flowing. KES eventually pulled off a 3-2 win, with Michael Adamson<\/strong> netting twice, and Oyena Qwabe<\/strong> scoring their other goal.<\/p>\n

Tapi Mutetwa<\/strong> and Dylan Viljoen<\/strong> scored for St John’s.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Parktown Boys’ High<\/strong> dominated against Northcliff High School<\/strong>, winning 3-1, courtesy of a Robert Bailey<\/strong> brace and another from Ryan Venter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

St Benedict’s College, under coach Owen Mvimbi<\/strong>, continued their fine form, edging out St David’s Marist Inanda<\/strong> 1-0.<\/p>\n

There was nothing to separate Garsfontein<\/strong> and Affies<\/strong>, who played to a 1-1 draw, with Zandr\u00e9\u00a0Nel<\/strong> getting on the scoresheet for Garsies and Christian Pullen<\/strong> scoring for Affies.<\/p>\n

Beaulieu College<\/strong> was on song, beating St Peter’s College<\/strong> 4-1.<\/p>\n
