{"id":40823,"date":"2024-04-08T18:09:31","date_gmt":"2024-04-08T16:09:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=40823"},"modified":"2024-04-08T18:09:31","modified_gmt":"2024-04-08T16:09:31","slug":"banyana-ba-style-make-a-loud-statement-in-their-season-opener","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=40823","title":{"rendered":"Banyana Ba Style make a loud statement in their season opener"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The weather on Sunday was threatening but cleared up just in time for an exciting day of u16 action in the <strong>Gauteng Women&#8217;s Development League (GWDL), <\/strong>with<strong> Highlands Park <\/strong>serving as the host to the league&#8217;s clubs for a day filled with goals.<\/p>\n<p>One of the favourites to claim the league honours, <strong>Mamelodi Sundowns<\/strong>, made a thunderous statement in their opening match, running roughshod over the <strong>West Youth Academy<\/strong>, firing in 14 goals while conceding only one.<\/p>\n<p>It was a tough day the West Youth Academy side, who shipped another seven goals in a 0-7 defeat to <strong>Remembers Elite Sports Academy (RESA)<\/strong>, for whom <strong>Lesedi Motaung<\/strong> scored a hattrick. <strong>Jabulile Tsotetsi<\/strong> grabbed a brace, while <strong>Thando Mosia<\/strong> and <strong>Itumeleng Setipe<\/strong> also netted.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_40828\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-40828\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-40828\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/434025055_411055954889600_6895627320691237622_n-400x299.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"299\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-40828\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mamelodi Sundowns goal scores in their 14-1 win against West Youth Academy. Photo: Football Stage<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Pretty Modika, Ncingo Tescla, Thandi Sibiza, Nompilo Maseti, Chuene Thabakane<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Princess Shongwe<\/strong> all found the back of the net as Mamelodi Sundowns displayed their dominance in their first game of the league season.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the massive margin of victory, coach <strong>Rhoda Mulaudzi<\/strong> may have mixed feelings about the win after expressing her concerns about her team&#8217;s defence in the past.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately for Sundowns, their second game, against Origin FC, did not take place as Origin had issues with several injuries impacting their squad.\u00a0 As a result, the Brazilians received a walkover and finished the day on top of the table with six points to their credit.<\/p>\n<p>However, it wasn&#8217;t just Mamelodi Sundowns that caught the eye. RESA, <strong>Kempton Park<\/strong>, and <strong>JVW<\/strong> also produced impressive performances and claimed two victories apiece on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>RESA&#8217;s coach <strong>Simeon Lekhooana<\/strong> declared himself pleased with the improvements his team has made since last season.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/\"><strong>SuperSport Schools Plus,<\/strong><\/a> he said he expects the girls to continue to excel and progress throughout the 2023 season. There remains a lot of work to do, he added, especially since it is a young and new team. They are on the right track, he reckoned.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_40827\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-40827\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-40827\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/434859686_395559063234962_11666627676480241_n-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-40827\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">RESA u16 Ladies Team 2024. Photo SAFA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It was a day that saw plenty of goals scored, including <strong>Panorama FC <\/strong>triumphing 8-0 over <strong>Edendale<\/strong>. <strong>Neo Moloto<\/strong> scored a hat trick, while the other goal scorers included <strong>Ona Resanyalo, Adrienne Mulligan,<\/strong> and <strong>Claudia-Joy Harmsen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thando Damba, Reabetswe Matsepe<\/strong>, and <strong>Thembisile Sindane <\/strong>were all on target for<strong> Kempton Park <\/strong>in a 3-1 win over <strong>Refilwe FC.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>JVW also showcased their prowess by recording two convincing wins.<\/p>\n<p>They outplayed <strong>Origin FC<\/strong> 4-0, thanks to a hattrick from<strong> Olivia McNeil<\/strong> and a goal from<strong> Bontle &#8220;Shorty&#8221; Khanye<\/strong>. In their other outing, against Kenneth FC, they kept another clean sheet, winning 3-0 on goals from <strong>Asante Cele, Gugu Mntambo<\/strong>, and <strong>Judah Heslop<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuks<\/strong>, after a 3-1 win over <strong>Panorama FC <\/strong>&#8211; with goals from <strong>Tshiamo Kekana, Daniella Human<\/strong>and <strong>Ofentse Thobakgale <\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0were beaten in their second match, going down 0-1 against <strong>Tornado FC.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bonginkosi Mncube,<\/strong> a member of Tornado FC&#8217;s technical team, reflected on a tough battle. The game was very challenging, he said, especially since most of the players were new to, and still getting to know, one another.<\/p>\n<p>In the second half, Tuks almost managed to turn the game around, but they failed to convert any of the chances they created.<\/p>\n<p>Mncube said Tornado&#8217;s performance was sub-standard and his charges&#8217; fitness levels were low.
