Photo: Collegiate Girls High<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There were wins for <strong>Clarendon<\/strong>,<strong> Collegiate Girls&#8217; High<\/strong>, <strong>Pearson<\/strong>, and <strong>Cambridge High School<\/strong> during the second week of the local hockey season in the Eastern Cape over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Clarendon, Collegiate, and Pearson were all in derby action after recently participating in the <strong>St Mary&#8217;s Festival<\/strong> in Gauteng.<\/p>\n<p>There, Pearson ended their campaign as the highest ranked Eastern Cape side, in 15<sup>th<\/sup> spot, while Collegiate edged out Clarendon 2-0\u00a0to take 21<sup>st<\/sup> place in the elite 32-team field.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday afternoon, Pearson was in action, playing host to their Gqeberha neighbours, <strong>Westering High School. <\/strong>The visitors were,\u00a0undoubtedly, the underdogs, but they had boosted their confidence at the Union Festival, where they reached the final before losing 0-1 to the hosts.<\/p>\n<p>Pearson, though, was a higher level of challenge and they demonstrated that by storming to a 6-0 win.<\/p>\n<p>In their second match of the week, on Saturday, Pearson defeated <strong>Stirling High<\/strong> 5-2, while Westering played to a 1-1 draw against <strong>Volkskool Graaff-Reinet<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Collegiate, meanwhile, also added two wins to their record.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of their derby against <strong>Outeniqua<\/strong>, in a mid-week match, they produced a fluent performance to overwhelm <strong>Alexander Road High School<\/strong> 7-0.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kerrin Gillies<\/strong> was the star of the show in that clash, slotting a handful of goals, while <strong>Jana Prinsloo<\/strong> and<strong> Kate Brennan<\/strong> also scored.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Collegiate carried the momentum from their mid-week success into their clash with <strong>Outeniqua <\/strong>in Gqeberha.<\/p>\n<p>After her five-goal haul, <strong>Gillies<\/strong> added another, converting a penalty stroke, and field goals from <strong>Nina Mitchell<\/strong>\u00a0and<strong> Kate Brennan<\/strong> secured a 3-1 win for the home side, with <strong>Zanelle Rensburg<\/strong> scoring for the visitors.<\/p>\n<p>In Makhanda, <strong>Cambridge High School<\/strong> thumped <strong>Victoria Girls&#8217; High <\/strong>4-0. <strong>Akhile Mdlalane<\/strong>, who has been in good goal scoring form since the start of the season, grabbed a double, and further goals from <strong>Milisa Mntusanto<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Usiphe Ngxoweni<\/strong> made it four for the visiting team.<\/p>\n<p>Clarendon Girls High completed the weekend&#8217;s schedule with a 2-0 win over <strong>Queenstown Girls&#8217; High<\/strong> (2-0) in a tightly contested clash, with <strong>Jilliana Saffy<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Hannah Viviers <\/strong>finding finishes.<\/p>\n<p>Clarendon, Stirling, Cambridge, and Hudson will next turn their attention to the <strong>Border Coastal Spar Hockey Challenge<\/strong>, which takes place next Sunday, 21 April.<\/p>\n<p>That action will be <a href=\"https:\/\/supersportschools.com\/\"><strong>LIVE<\/strong><\/a> on <strong>SuperSport Schools<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESULTS:<br \/>\n<\/strong>Clarendon High School for Girls 2-0 Queenstown Girls&#8217; High<br \/>\nHudson Park 5-0 Milnerton<br \/>\nCollegiate Girls&#8217; High 3-1 Outeniqua<br \/>\nPearson High 5-2 Stirling High School<br \/>\nCambridge High School 4-0 Victoria Girls&#8217; High<br \/>\nPearson High 6-0 Westering<br \/>\nWestering 1-1 Volkskool Graaff-Reinet<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There were wins for Clarendon, Collegiate Girls&#8217; High, Pearson, and Cambridge High School during the second week of the local hockey season in the Eastern Cape over the weekend.
