{"id":41880,"date":"2024-04-19T14:01:38","date_gmt":"2024-04-19T12:01:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=41880"},"modified":"2024-04-19T14:01:38","modified_gmt":"2024-04-19T12:01:38","slug":"resa-to-host-the-second-round-of-the-u16-gwdl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=41880","title":{"rendered":"RESA to host the second round of the u16 GWDL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-42249\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/football-resa-u16-gwdl.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/>Eleven teams will make a long drive to <strong>President Park<\/strong> in Vereeniging, the home of the <strong>Remember Elite Sports Academy (RESA)<\/strong>, on Sunday for the second round of the u16 <strong>Gauteng Women&#8217;s Development League (GWDL)<\/strong> season.<\/p>\n<p>The response to the introduction of women&#8217;s football at RESA, which serves the Vaal Triangle &#8211; Vereeniging, Vanderbijlpark and Sasolburg &#8211; has been exceptionally strong.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of the club, <strong>Xolani Mathumbo,<\/strong> has described the academy as a close-knit family. Every staff member from the top management down is a football enthusiast, he said.<\/p>\n<p>RESA also takes pride in being a part of the emerging talent pool and nurturing bright prospects, not only for the Gauteng region but also for the future of women&#8217;s football, he added.<\/p>\n<p>The academy has a proven track record in the men&#8217;s game, producing a long list of professional <a href=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/resa-academy-still-going-strong-after-25-years\/\">footballers, football administrators and influential figures<\/a> in South African society.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Simeon Lekhooana<\/strong>, who coaches the RESA u16 GWDL team, said the academy is not only focussed on developing footballers, but it is also about helping men and women to develop as individuals.<\/p>\n<p>In the first round of the GWDL, RESA was too hot for the <strong>West Youth Academy<\/strong> to handle and powered their way to an 8-0 victory.<\/p>\n<p>In their second match of the round, they continued their winning streak, defeating <strong>Tornado FC<\/strong> 4-1.<\/p>\n<p>Heading into this weekend&#8217;s fixtures, RESA lies second on the GWDL log, just behind the dominant <strong>Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies&#8217; <\/strong>team<strong>.<\/strong> Both clubs remain undefeated, with <strong>Kempton Park FC<\/strong> in third place and <strong>JVW <\/strong>in fourth place. The top four are separated by goal difference only.<\/p>\n<p>With home-ground advantage, RESA will hope to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns for the top spot.
