St Andrew’s\u00a0<\/strong>secured a perfect end for themselves to the Free State B-League action on their fields on Saturday evening, when they beat Bloemfontein High<\/strong> 24-5 under the lights of Victoria Park.<\/p>\n

It was a stylish home win for the Saints’ boys in their league opener.<\/p>\n

Their hooker, Lucien Hugo<\/strong>, spearheaded the attack and went over for a brace of tries, with further five-pointers being scored by Eduan van den Heever<\/strong> and Tumelo Lebepe<\/strong>, which was more than enough to secure a convincing victory at home and draw a line under an exciting day of rugby.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the day, Brandfort<\/strong> recorded an impressive victory over Zastron<\/strong> with their hooker, Xander van Heerden<\/strong>, also leading the charge and scoring a hat-trick.<\/p>\n

Big Greyven Dempsey<\/strong> brought his tally for their last three games to 10 tries by adding another brace to his record.<\/p>\n

Last year, these two met in the league final, with Brandfort edging that match 29-27, so Saturday’s victory bodes well for the boys from Brandfort.<\/p>\n

Sand du Plessis<\/strong> ran rampant against Bloemfontein South<\/strong>, winning 55-7, with Shaun Maina<\/strong> scoring 15 points.<\/p>\n

However, President Steyn’s exciting centre, Juanricht Swanepoel<\/strong>, was the most destructive player of the day. He crossed the try line on four occasions as they crushed Heatherdale<\/strong> 52-8.<\/p>\n

To their credit, Heatherdale never stopped asking questions of the Steyners’ defence and their lanky no. 4 lock, Simpiwe Jiyane<\/strong>, was rewarded with a try.<\/p>\n
