Schoonspruit Secondary<\/strong> repeated their FNB Classic Clashes<\/strong> success of 2023 against Ho\u00ebrskool Piketberg<\/strong> on Saturday, narrowly edging past their opponents for a second year in a row.<\/p>\n

Last year, the Schoonies were victorious by 13-12 on their home field, which set the table for a huge clash in the return fixture this year.<\/p>\n

The match lived up to the lofty expectations, with both teams leaving their all on the field as they brought the day’s festivities to a fitting end.<\/p>\n

The visitors got out of the blocks first when captain Charlton van Schalkwyk <\/strong>burst over for the first try, converted by flyhalf, Irlo Liebenberg<\/strong>, who had already opened their points’ scoring account with a penalty earlier on.<\/p>\n

The Zebras didn’t have to wait long for their midfield maestro, Raequen Lesch<\/strong>, to slice through the visitors’ defences and go over for five points to help claw back the deficit.<\/p>\n

His second try, on the halftime hooter, saw to it that Piketberg nosed in front, 14-10.<\/p>\n

In the second half, however, lightning-quick winger, Hezron Nel<\/strong>, benefited from the bounce of the ball, which left the Piketberg defenders wrongfooted as he strolled in to regain the lead for Schoonies.<\/p>\n

A third try for the visitors by Shawndre Diergaardt<\/strong> and an opportunistic drop-goal by Liebenberg gave them a 10-point buffer. Prince Seerane <\/strong>answered with a late try for the Zebras, but it wasn’t quite enough as they finished three points shy of Schoonspuit, who retained the bragging rights for another year.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the week, wing Brendon September<\/strong> crossed the whitewash four times as Porterville overwhelmed Ho\u00ebrskool Vredenburg<\/strong> 82-3. Outside centre, McAllister Boer<\/strong>, converted 11 of his team’s tries to contribute 22 points off the tee.<\/p>\n
