{"id":43839,"date":"2024-05-02T20:47:50","date_gmt":"2024-05-02T18:47:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=43839"},"modified":"2024-05-02T20:47:50","modified_gmt":"2024-05-02T18:47:50","slug":"hobson-heroics-see-grey-high-to-victory-jeppe-trumps-graeme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=43839","title":{"rendered":"Hobson heroics see Grey High to victory, Jeppe trumps Graeme"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_43858\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-43858\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-43858 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Grey-High-vs-St-Johns-2024-e1714673786810-400x314.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"314\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-43858\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Spook Louw<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Gqeberha &#8211; <strong>Grey High<\/strong> was in phenomenal form on the opening day of their home festival, beginning their campaign on a positive note and building some valuable momentum before their big clash against Graeme College on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Relive all of the action on <strong>SuperSport Schools &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/supersportschools\">Register now<\/a> &#8211;<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/GreyRugbyFest2024\">Link to the festival<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jon Hobson<\/strong>, Grey&#8217;s electric no. 8, put on a show for the home supporters, crossing the try line twice, as they stormed to a convincing 33-15 victory over <strong>St John&#8217;s College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t easy pickings for the home side, though, as<strong> St John<\/strong>&#8216;s launched a valiant fightback after the break.\u00a0 First, their nippy scrumhalf, <strong>Thomas Kruger<\/strong>, unlocked the Grey defence to lift his side&#8217;s spirits, and then their big hooker, <strong>Kakuhle Tungata<\/strong>, made another breakthrough.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t enough, though, as the hosts, aided by five-pointers from <strong>Lavela Pongolo<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Ben Wessels<\/strong> and <strong>Fletcher Britz<\/strong>, on top of Hobson&#8217;s heroics, reigned supreme.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;ll look forward to Saturday&#8217;s clash against <strong>Graeme College<\/strong>, with an eye on exacting revenge, after Graeme beat Grey for the first time in 49 years in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The Makhanda school was subjected to a rough outing by a wounded <strong>Jeppe High School for Boys<\/strong>, who went down to KES last weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Jeppe ran in five tries, while Graeme managed only a three-pointer off the boot of <strong>Marcus Williams<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The big flank, <strong>Nathan Claassen<\/strong>, had a superb game for the Johannesburg side. He was one of the try-scorers, along with his captain <strong>Khuthadzo Rasivhaga<\/strong>, vice-captain <strong>Risima Khosa<\/strong>, <strong>Matthew Coetzee<\/strong> and <strong>Lesego Zungu<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Queen&#8217;s College<\/strong> turned on the style in their match against <strong>St Stithians<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Two tries apiece by the wingers, <strong>Ayathanda Mtyando<\/strong> and <strong>Jameel Fleshman<\/strong>, helped power the Komani boys to an impressive 54-19 win.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scorers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Grey High 33 (12) &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>Tries: Jon Hobson (2), Ben Wessels, Lavela Pongolo, Fletcher Britz.
