The weekend’s schoolboy rugby action kicks off on Friday evening in Worcester where the Strand High School<\/strong> 1st XV will be chasing a win against Worcester Gimnasium<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

There’s no better way to start the weekend than with a game of free-flowing rugby in the Boland and the Gimmies and Strand Eagles have been involved in a couple of thrillers this season.<\/p>\n

Last weekend, Strand fell 15-19 short against Brackenfell High School<\/strong>, and before that they were on the receiving end of a Stellenberg<\/strong> onslaught, going down 10-76. They’ve also registered a couple of memorable wins, edging past Hermanus<\/strong> 31-30 and overpowering DF Malan<\/strong> 52-22.<\/p>\n

The home team’s season has been dramatic, as well. They’re coming off impressive wins against Robertson<\/strong> (35-28) and Ho\u00ebrskool Bellville<\/strong> (19-12) but they also lost 17-22 against the Brakkies earlier in the season.<\/p>\n

The “Bosvarke” will look to their front row – Wilfred Slingers<\/strong>, Armand Croeser<\/strong> and Amaan Adendorff<\/strong> – for another big performance to keep them on the front foot, and the visiting pack will have to stand their ground to contain the Worcester dangermen.<\/p>\n

Also keep an eye on Valentino Nomadluka<\/strong> and Jayd-Will de Klerk,<\/strong> who are likely to give the visitors headaches around the breakdowns.<\/p>\n

The Gimmies will also have to be wary, though. Strand’s backline has been able to engineer gaps in most of the defences they’ve faced this season, with playmakers’ Lyle Julies<\/strong> and Heinrich April<\/strong> tearing it up on the wing, and halfback Jaydan Steenkamp<\/strong>\u00a0directing the attack expertly from behind the scrum.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Charlie Hofmeyr<\/strong> attempts to keep their season’s record unblemished in front of the Ceres faithful when they take on Swartland<\/strong> and Robertson tackles Hermanus.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Parel Vallei<\/strong> is in town to challenge Bellville THS<\/strong> and Melkbosstrand<\/strong> hosts Hottentots-Holland High School<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
