{"id":45859,"date":"2024-05-20T12:59:16","date_gmt":"2024-05-20T10:59:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=45859"},"modified":"2024-05-20T12:59:16","modified_gmt":"2024-05-20T10:59:16","slug":"rhenish-paarl-girls-and-paarl-gim-dominate-in-the-western-cape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=45859","title":{"rendered":"Rhenish, Paarl Girls&#8217; and Paarl Gim dominate in the Western Cape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-45918\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/hockey-rhenish-200524-400x182.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"182\" \/>Rhenish Girls&#8217; High <\/strong>further asserted themselves as one of the most dangerous teams in the country this season when they overwhelmed <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/mental-strength-key-as-fairmont-hunts-a-win-at-rhenish\/\">Fairmont High School<\/a><\/strong> 10-0 in one of the most highly anticipated of the weekend&#8217;s girls&#8217; matches in the Western Cape.<\/p>\n<p>The Stellenbosch-based side headed into the game with confidence after an impressive <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/affies-wins-from-the-penalty-spot-vs-rhenish-to-clinch-all-girls-festival-title\/\">All Girls Festival <\/a><\/strong>showing in Potchefstroom earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>There, coach<strong> Chris Gerber&#8217;<\/strong>s troops finished in second spot, going down 2-3 in a penalty shootout against Pretoria&#8217;s <strong>Afrikaanse Ho\u00ebr Meisieskool <\/strong>after the teams had finished regulation time in the final level at 0-0.<\/p>\n<p>Before the All Girls Festival, Rhenish had only tasted defeat once, and it was a 0-1 loss, at the hands of <strong>Paarl Gimnasium<\/strong> during the <strong>St Mary&#8217;s Waverley Hockey Festival<\/strong> last month.<\/p>\n<p>Despite those setbacks, Rhenish has been superb this season and, at times, has looked unplayable, scoring goals with ease while remaining rock-solid at the back.<\/p>\n<p>Before their Friday night clash, they took on <strong>Herschel Girls School<\/strong> in a mid-week encounter and won 2-0.<\/p>\n<p>Against Fairmont, they came up against an unpredictable side that&#8217;s been searching for consistency in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>In their two fixtures preceding the Rhenish game, coach <strong>Jarryd Curran<\/strong>&#8216;s side defeated <strong>Stellenbosch<\/strong> 5-0 and drew 0-0 with <strong>DF Malan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>They were, however, blown away by Rhenish. <strong>Ruby Cilliers<\/strong> opened the scoring with a field goal early in the match and the floodgates opened up after that strike.\u00a0The Stellenbosch girls were superb under the lights.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sarah-Ellen Groenewald<\/strong> then netted twice, firstly with a drag flick from a PC, which was followed by a field goal.\u00a0<strong>Grace Hobbs <\/strong>added three of her own, <strong>Leah du Plessis<\/strong> bagged a double, and <strong>Montana de Kock <\/strong>and <strong>Nicola van der Merwe <\/strong>added further goals as Rhenish posted an emphatic 10-0 win.<\/p>\n<p>Rhenish remains unbeaten in Western Cape competition this season, and it&#8217;ll take a special effort to dent that record.<\/p>\n<p>In another highly anticipated clash on Friday, <strong>Paarl Girls&#8217; High<\/strong> was victorious against <strong>La Rochelle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Girls&#8217; High, just like Rhenish, participated in the All Girls Festival. They finished fourth in Potchefstroom, which was the second best of the Western Cape sides at the event.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, they took on <strong>Somerset College<\/strong>, and shared a 1-1 draw, with <strong>Halle Williams<\/strong> finding the back of the net in that game.<\/p>\n<p>They were a different side against La Rochelle. Clinical in front of goal, they netted 10 goals, while keeping a clean sheet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lisa Craven<\/strong> scored a hattrick, <strong>Halle Williams<\/strong> contributed a brace, and <strong>Charlotte Louw<\/strong>, <strong>Nina Cilliers<\/strong>, <strong>Cassie Fairbairn<\/strong>, <strong>Rouxn\u00e8 Pentz<\/strong>, and <strong>Nika Pretorius <\/strong>each scored once.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Paarl Gimnasium defeated HMS\u00a0Bloemhof 2-0 at home with <strong>Anya Swanepoel<\/strong>, and <strong>Tanya Pieterse<\/strong> grabbing the goals for Gim.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESULTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Worcester Gimnasium 1-2 Strand<br \/>\nPaarl Girls&#8217; High 10-0 La Rochelle<br \/>\nParel Vallei 1-0 Somerset College<br \/>\nRustenburg Girls&#8217; High 0-2 Springfield Convent School<br \/>\nRhenish Girls&#8217; High 10-0 Fairmont High School<br \/>\nHerschel Girls School 1-0 Stellenberg High<br \/>\nMelkbosstrand 1-2 Brackenfell<br \/>\nPaarl Gimnasium 2-0 HMS Bloemhof<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rhenish Girls&#8217; High further asserted themselves as one of the most dangerous teams in the country this season when they overwhelmed Fairmont High School 10-0 in one of the most highly anticipated of the weekend&#8217;s girls&#8217; matches in the Western Cape.
