Then, a late strike ensured the victory would go to the side from KwaMashu.<\/p>\n<p>In the playoffs, they accounted for the <a href=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/ntuthuko-mngunis-goal-wins-carter-the-kzn-inland-championship\/\"><strong>KZN Inland champions, Carter High<\/strong><\/a>, winning 1-0, and they then ousted newcomers&#8217; <strong>Virginia<\/strong> in a penalty shootout after the teams had played to a goalless draw.<\/p>\n<p>The team from the northern Free State finished third and were good value for their 3-1 win over <strong>Maritzburg College <\/strong>in the third-place playoff. The KZN side struck first with a fantastic counterattacking goal, but they were kept on the back foot throughout the contest.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_49731\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-49731\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-49731\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/football-virginia-maritzburg-160624-400x197.jpg\" alt=\"Virginia stretched Maritzburg College in the Cup's third place playoff and came away with a 3-1 win.\" width=\"400\" height=\"197\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-49731\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Virginia stretched Maritzburg College in the Cup&#8217;s third place playoff and came away with a 3-1 win.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Virginia impressed with their intensity and tough pressing, and they had the finishing to match their defensive excellence.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the tournament, they rained in the goals and were comfortably the highest scorers.<\/p>\n<p>At the conclusion of the event, no side had more players included in the team of the tournament than Virginia. Their four included <strong>Lebohang Mobe<\/strong>, who was named the <strong>Player of the Tournament<\/strong>. He also received the <strong>Golden Boot Award<\/strong> after netting 12 times.<\/p>\n<p>Not surprisingly, given that he didn&#8217;t give up a goal, <strong>Sibusiso Mkhize<\/strong>, of Nqabakazulu, was named the <strong>Goalkeeper of the Tournament<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In an enthralling Plate final, <strong>Paul Roos<\/strong>, trailing by two goals, scored twice in the last five minutes to force a penalty shootout against <strong>Pinetown<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The side from the Boland took it 3-2 from the spot after both &#8216;keepers pulled off fine saves.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_49734\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-49734\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-49734\" src=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/football-pinetown-160624-400x226.jpg\" alt=\"Pinetown's goalkeeper pulled off this spectacular save in their penalty shootout against Paul Roos, but the Western Cape side stopped two Pinetown shots and they won the Shield.\" width=\"400\" height=\"226\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-49734\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pinetown&#8217;s goalkeeper pulled off this spectacular save in their penalty shootout against Paul Roos, but the Western Cape side&#8217;s goalie stopped two Pinetown shots and they won the Shield.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Another team from the Western Cape claimed a title, with <strong>Rondebosch Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> edging out <strong>Durban High School (DHS)<\/strong> from the spot in the Shield final after regulation time had finished 0-0.<\/p>\n<p>Pietermaritzburg&#8217;s <strong>Linpark<\/strong> picked up the Spoon, defeating <strong>Maqhutshana<\/strong> 2-0 in an entertaining contest.<\/p>\n<p>Props to Kloof High.
