{"id":52587,"date":"2024-07-15T09:53:26","date_gmt":"2024-07-15T07:53:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=52587"},"modified":"2024-07-15T09:53:26","modified_gmt":"2024-07-15T07:53:26","slug":"hudson-shows-grit-and-composure-to-beat-clarendon-away-from-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=52587","title":{"rendered":"Hudson shows grit and composure to beat Clarendon away from home"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_52588\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-52588\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-52588\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/hudson-beat-Clarendon-400x307.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: Hudson Park High School\" width=\"400\" height=\"307\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-52588\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: <strong>Hudson Park High School<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In their second match after returning from the mid-year break, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/hudson-victorious-in-komani-while-dsg-vs-pearson-ends-in-a-stalemate\/\">Hudson Park High School<\/a><\/strong> girls&#8217; hockey team produced arguably their most impressive performance of the season when they defeated <strong>Clarendon High School for Girls<\/strong> 2-1 in East London on the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>During the week, Hudson kicked off their term&#8217;s assignments with a 6-0 thumping of Lilyfontein.<\/p>\n<p>Their last outing as a unit before that match was back in May against <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/hudson-victorious-in-komani-while-dsg-vs-pearson-ends-in-a-stalemate\/\">Queenstown Girls&#8217; High<\/a><\/strong> in Komani.\u00a0In that game, coach <strong>Jerry Snyman&#8217;<\/strong>s side played an attractive brand of hockey, which saw them score twice, through <strong>Busiwe Mayekiso<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Mackenzie Goss,<\/strong> to seal a solid 2-0 win away from home.<\/p>\n<p>Then, during the winter holidays, two Hudson Park stalwarts, <strong>Tarelle Jones<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Melnique Langley<\/strong>, represented the <strong>Border u18A<\/strong> girls&#8217; team at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/domingo-pleased-with-schools-talent-as-sashoc-continues-to-grow-hockey\/\">SASHOC National Week<\/a><\/strong> in Bloemfontein.<\/p>\n<p>At the conclusion of the event, Jones was named in the <strong>SA Schools u17<\/strong> side after performing strongly throughout the inter-provincial event.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the season, in April, Hudson Park and Clarendon met during the <b>Eastern Cape Spar Hockey Challenge<\/b>, with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/mcclure-seals-spar-hockey-challenge-victory-for-clarendon\/\">Clarendon claiming a narrow victory<\/a> <\/strong>in that clash.<\/p>\n<p>Hudson wasn&#8217;t about to allow history to repeat itself, and they scored twice, through Jones and <strong>Inathi Lubelwana<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Jones had a cracker of a game against the <strong>Clarrie Bags<\/strong>, and despite the hosts pulling one back, she helped steer her side to victory.\u00a0Langley, too, was one of the leading contributors.<\/p>\n<p>Coach Snyman also introduced an u16 player to his setup, <strong>Asiphe Zitumane<\/strong>, and she came off the bench, stepped up, and made an impact on the big stage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To start the term off with a doubleheader, some injuries, and having come back from IPTs, this week&#8217;s matches were always going to be a lot [to ask of the girls],\u201d coach Snyman told <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/hockey\/\">SuperSport Schools Plus<\/a> <\/strong>after the match.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We took each game for what it was. I am very happy with the girls&#8217; performances this week, despite the challenges we faced.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on their last meeting with Clarendon, he said: &#8220;A game that ends on penalties doesn&#8217;t do the game justice.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We went into this game knowing we had to rectify the loss, and the girls came to the table and gave it 200 percent. The girls&#8217; mindsets this week were strong, settled, and determined. They were hungry for the game and worked as a team towards the goal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hudson is left with a couple of big encounters before calling it a day on the 2024 season.\u00a0This coming weekend, they take on <strong>Stirling High School<\/strong> and will be aiming to make it four wins on the trot.<\/p>\n<p>They also have a match against Qonce&#8217;s <strong>Kingsridge High School for Girls<\/strong> on Hudson Park&#8217;s Founder&#8217;s weekend.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It most certainly is a confidence boost,&#8221; he said after the win over Clarendon. &#8220;It was a really good game and to quote one of the players on the bench in the last two minutes of the game, &#8216;This is the best game I&#8217;ve ever played&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have a few derbies left and we hope to finish the season off strongly,&#8221; Snyman concluded.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In their second match after returning from the mid-year break, the Hudson Park High School girls&#8217; hockey team produced arguably their most impressive performance of the season when they defeated Clarendon High School for Girls 2-1 in East London on the weekend.
