\"\"The weekend\u2019s action in round 18 of the Gauteng Development League<\/strong> (GDL)<\/strong> was overshadowed by a tragic incident in a Stream B match between Jacaranda Callies<\/strong> and West Youth Academy<\/strong> at the Laudium Sports Field<\/strong> in Centurion.<\/p>\n

During the match, 15-year-old Thlokomelo Phasa<\/strong>, of West Youth Academy, was struck at close range in the chest from a shot on goal. He dropped to the ground, unconscious. Medics, who were on the scene, tried to resuscitate him, but to no avail.<\/p>\n

The GDL announced the news on its various social media platforms, stating: \u201cSad news in [the] Gauteng Development League as a player [has] lost his life. [We] have confirmed that the [West Youth] Academy has lost one of its players, Tlhokomelo Phasa, while [he was] on duty.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in Soweto, Kaizer Chiefs<\/strong> hosted a confident Rosina Sedibane Modiba<\/strong> unit, with the Amakhosi<\/strong> intent on loosening Mamelodi Sundowns<\/strong>‘ tight hold on the top spot in the standings.<\/p>\n

The Pretoria team gave them a good fight, but the Soweto giants had Rosina’s number at Naturena, registering a 2-1 victory to move within five points of ‘Downs at the summit.<\/p>\n

A long list of games was postponed for a variety of reasons, which meant Sundowns, Randburg AFC<\/strong>, East Rand Athletic Club<\/strong>, School of Excellence<\/strong>, Jomo Cosmos<\/strong>, and Tuks<\/strong> weren’t in action.<\/p>\n

TS Galaxy<\/strong> outclassed Wits Junior<\/strong>, winning 3-0, to further compound the relegation concerns of Wits in a Saturday showdown.<\/p>\n

NWU Vaal<\/strong> lost 1-2 to Panorama FC<\/strong>, while, in a bit of an upset, Kathorus Hyper Academy<\/strong> pulled off a 3-2 win over Remember Elite Sport Academy (RESA)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Third placed Highlands Park<\/strong> kept their challenge rolling along with a tight 2-1 victory over SuperSport United<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The weekend\u2019s schedule was completed on Sunday with a meeting between Joburg City<\/strong> and Sevens Academy<\/strong>, which Joburg won by a 3-1 margin.<\/p>\n
