Photo: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/lookonimages\/\">Lookonimages<\/a><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>With just over a week remaining before the annual <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/super-12-tournament-is-on-the-horizon\/\">Fairtree Super 12 Hockey Tournament<\/a>,<\/strong> two of the qualified teams, <strong>Paarl Gimnasium<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Rhenish Girls&#8217; High,<\/strong> continued their impressive seasons, winning once again to keep their momentum rolling ahead of flying the Western Cape flag in Bloemfontein.<\/p>\n<p>Paarl Gim picked up two wins: the first, a 2-0 defeat of<strong>\u00a0Springfield Convent School <\/strong>in a mid-week clash, and the second a 3-1 home win over <strong>Somerset College <\/strong>on Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>Gim entered the week on the back of a key <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/paarl-gim-sneaks-past-rhenish-to-remain-unbeaten-in-the-western-cape\/\">3-2 win over Rhenish<\/a><\/strong> last week.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Rhenish travelled the short mile to take on their Koch Street rivals, <strong>HMS Bloemhof<\/strong> for their annual Winter&#8217;s Week clash and won 3-0.<\/p>\n<p>Gim would have been full of confidence ahead of their match against <strong>Somerset College<\/strong> after they thumped their visitors 10-1 earlier this month in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/paarl-gim-crowned-cape-town-international-hockey-tournament-girls-champs\/\">final of the Cape Town International Hockey Tournament<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This time, coach <strong>Ian Naude&#8217;<\/strong>s side started on the back foot, conceding the first goal as the visitors&#8217; influential skipper <strong>Julia Brown<\/strong> slotted a penalty corner drag flick early in the first chukka.<\/p>\n<p>With the game being played at a high intensity, <strong>Minke Botha<\/strong> equalised for the hosts. Then, a goal from <strong>Jone&#8217; de Winnaar <\/strong>put the home side into the lead for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>In the second half. Gim dominated proceedings and were rewarded when<strong> Isabella Nel<\/strong> scored from open play to make it 3-1.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on the win, coach Naude said he is pleased with his side&#8217;s form, with their interschools rivalry clash against <strong>Paarl Girls&#8217; High<\/strong> and the <strong>Fairtree Super 12<\/strong> on the horizon.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m excited by how the girls are playing hockey at the moment,&#8221; he told <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/hockey\/\">SuperSport Schools Plus<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Each game we play is with the mindset of preparing ourselves for the big interschools clash and the Super 12 coming up.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are confident but not overconfident. Interschools has a lot of emotions. It&#8217;s a big game. The girls will be playing in front of a big crowd, and there are certain expectations to do well.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They have shown maturity and professionalism in their approach to games, so we will go into this week with an open mindset. It will be tough &#8211; physically, mentally, and emotionally &#8211; but we are ready for it,&#8221; he concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, coach <strong>Chris Gerber&#8217;<\/strong>s Rhenish side got back to winning ways at the expense of HMS Bloemhof.<\/p>\n<p>Playing away from home, Rhenish won courtesy of field goals from <strong>Ruby Cilliers<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Pippa Viljoen<\/strong> and a penalty corner goal from <strong>Puck Bakker<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In Cape Town, <b>Herschel Girls School <\/b>was also among the winners on the weekend, beating <strong>Rustenburg Girls&#8217; High<\/strong> 4-1.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mia Andrew<\/strong> grabbed a brace for the winners, while <strong>Gabriella du Toit<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Emily van Heerden <\/strong>were also on the score sheet.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, coach <strong>Jarred Pitout&#8217;<\/strong>s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/parel-vallei-relishing-outeniqua-exchange-in-george\/\">Parel Vallei<\/a><\/strong> side won big against Worcester Gimnasium.
