{"id":59097,"date":"2024-10-10T15:42:33","date_gmt":"2024-10-10T13:42:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=59097"},"modified":"2024-10-10T15:42:33","modified_gmt":"2024-10-10T13:42:33","slug":"will-south-africa-achieve-three-peat-in-caf-african-schools-football-championship-cosafa-qualifier","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=59097","title":{"rendered":"Will South Africa achieve three-peat in CAF African Schools Football Championship | COSAFA Qualifier?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-31908\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/football-cosafa-champions-161223-400x362.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"362\" \/>The <strong>CAF African Schools Football Championship | COSAFA Qualifier<\/strong> for the 2024\/25 season kicks off in <strong>Walvis Bay<\/strong>, Namibia, on Friday, 11 October.<\/p>\n<p>A total of eight teams, comprising both boys and girls from the Southern African region, will compete for a coveted spot in the continental finals of the CAF African Schools Football Championship.<\/p>\n<p>Since taking office as the <strong>President of CAF, Dr. Patrice Motsepe<\/strong> and the <strong>Motsepe Foundation<\/strong> have made substantial contributions to the tournament, now entering its third edition, with significant investments in its development.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Schools football is at the heart of the long-term development and growth of African football,&#8221; Motsepe said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One of the best investments that we can make to ensure that African football is amongst the best in the world is to invest in schools&#8217; football and football infrastructure for boys and girls at school, amateur and professional level.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This year marks the third edition of the U15 regional qualifiers, following the events held in <strong>Malawi<\/strong> in 2022 and<strong> Zimbabwe<\/strong> in 2023, both of which were won by<strong> South Africa<\/strong>, in both the boys&#8217; and girls&#8217; divisions. Team South Africa is therefore aiming for a historic three-peat in the regional qualifiers.<\/p>\n<p>The South African girls&#8217; team was awarded the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/sa-u15-girls-crowned-caf-african-schools-football-champions\/\">title of continental champions<\/a> for the 2023\/24 season earlier this year. Under the guidance of coach<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/edendale-technical-ready-to-defend-their-title\/\"> Ntombifuthi Khumalo<\/a>,<\/strong> the team defeated <strong>Morocco<\/strong> in a penalty shootout, winning 5-4 following a 1-1 draw after regular time at the <strong>Amaan Stadium<\/strong> in Tanzania, which was filled to capacity.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_56963\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-56963\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-56963 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Kat-Malebane-Winners-400x280.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"280\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-56963\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Katlego Malebana<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>South Africa&#8217;s girls&#8217; team will be competing without <strong>Katlego Malebana<\/strong>, who previously led them to victory. Malebana, a remarkable young talent, was instrumental in South Africa&#8217;s victory at the CAF African Schools Football Championship held in Tanzania. She also earned the title of <strong>Player of the Tournament<\/strong> during the CAF African Schools Football Championship | COSAFA Qualifier in Zimbabwe last year.<\/p>\n<p>Her talents have been recognized, as she was awarded the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/katlego-malebana-is-the-gsport4girls-school-sport-star-of-the-year\/\"><strong>GSport4girls School Sport Star of the Year<\/strong><\/a> in September. She was also added to the <strong>Tuks<\/strong> senior team for the remainder of the 2024 <strong>Hollywoodbets Super League season<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>While her absence will be keenly felt by Team South Africa, the inclusion of <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/edendale-to-represent-sa-at-the-caf-african-schools-football-championships\/\"><strong>Akhona Simamane<\/strong><\/a>, who plays for <strong>Lindelani Ladies FC<\/strong> in the top tier of South African women&#8217;s football, along with <strong>Nomfundo Nzuza<\/strong>, who was also part of the gold medal-winning team, will enhance the already impressive line-up of Team South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Both South Africa&#8217;s boys&#8217; and girls&#8217; teams have been placed in<strong> Group B<\/strong>, where they will be competing against <strong>Zimbabwe, Angola<\/strong>\u00a0and<strong> Eswatini<\/strong>.
