{"id":62676,"date":"2025-01-18T16:03:23","date_gmt":"2025-01-18T14:03:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=62676"},"modified":"2025-01-18T16:03:23","modified_gmt":"2025-01-18T14:03:23","slug":"unbeaten-grey-college-into-schools-sa20-semis-in-potchefstroom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=62676","title":{"rendered":"Unbeaten Grey College into Schools SA20 semis in Potchefstroom"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_62680\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62680\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-62680 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Grey-College-Cricket-2-400x346.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"346\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62680\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Grey College on Facebook.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Grey College<\/strong> heads into the semi-finals as the only unbeaten side at the <strong>Schools SA20<\/strong> regional playoffs in Potchefstroom after another emphatic victory on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Relive all the action on <strong>SuperSport Schools<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/SchoolsCricket2025\"><strong>(www.supersportschools.com)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Bloemfontein boys were made to work hard by the only other unbeaten team at that stage, <strong>Potchefstroom Gimnasium<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <em><strong>Gimmies<\/strong><\/em>, having batted first on the <strong>JB Marks Oval<\/strong> posted a solid 143\/5 in their 20 overs. <strong>Lukas Kotze<\/strong> (47) deserved a half-century but fell just three runs short, while the consistently impressive <strong>Ulrich Botha<\/strong> (44) also made a telling contribution.<\/p>\n<p>Botha was the local side&#8217;s mainstay with the ball, too, heaping pressure on Grey by capturing three wickets for 26 runs.<\/p>\n<p>The limelight, however, belonged to Grey&#8217;s star opening batsman, <strong>Christian Kind<\/strong>, and the all-rounder <strong>Daniel Hattingh<\/strong>. Kind made 53 at the top of the order, while Hattingh top-scored with 56 runs.<\/p>\n<p>Their 81-run partnership bolstered Grey&#8217;s reply, which enabled the Bloemfontein school to maintain its winning streak. They will head into the playoffs as the favourites to go all the way.<\/p>\n<p><strong>St Andrew&#8217;s School<\/strong>, the Free State Schools SA20 champion, also, secured a semi-final spot after charging to a big 72-run victory over <strong>Kalahari<\/strong> at Potchefstroom Gimnasium&#8217;s <strong>Witrand Oval<\/strong>. The side from Kuruman mustered a disappointing 92 all out while chasing 165 for victory, with <strong>Janko Noeth<\/strong> providing nearly half their runs with a well-played 42.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Naud\u00e9 Botha<\/strong>&#8216;s batting prowess, however, stole the show. The 67 from his blade paved the way for Saints.\u00a0Botha&#8217;s fellow opener, <strong>Andrew Sobiech<\/strong>, also chipped in with 37 of his own, while the spinners, <strong>FG Botha<\/strong> (3\/12) and <strong>Nikhil Sukraj<\/strong> (3\/20), inflicted irreversible damage with the ball.<\/p>\n<p>In the upset of the weekend,<strong> Ho\u00ebrskool Upington<\/strong> toppled <strong>Ho\u00ebrskool Rustenburg<\/strong> by 16 runs on the <strong>Puk Oval<\/strong>. That defeat meant <em><strong>Rusties<\/strong><\/em> finished the event without a victory in Potchefstroom, which was where <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/rustenburg-crowned-north-west-schools-sa20-champions\/\">they won the North West Schools SA20<\/a> <\/strong>in September 2024.<\/p>\n<p>After Upington posted only a moderate 121\/8 in their 20 overs, their bowlers knew it was up to them to secure victory, and they delivered.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong><em>Uppies<\/em>&#8216; Vaylen Lombaard<\/strong> claimed two scalps for only nine runs and <strong>Likumi Aide<\/strong> played his part with two wickets, too.
