Photo: <strong>Toni Butterworth<\/strong>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Entertaining match-ups, nail-biting contests, and shock results highlighted the second day of the <strong>St Andrew&#8217;s College (SAC) Shield<\/strong> on Friday in Makhanda.<\/p>\n<p>Day one, on Thursday, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/high-scoring-on-the-opening-day-of-the-sac-shield\/\">produced a whopping 214 goals in 13 matches from the 12-strong field<\/a><\/strong>, which set a high bar for the following days. The final takes place on Sunday, 26 January, at 12:10.<\/p>\n<p>After two days, <strong>Bishops Diocesan College<\/strong> and <strong>Rondebosch Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> lead Pool A and B respectively, and both remain unbeaten.<\/p>\n<p>Bishops made it four wins from four after beating St Andrew&#8217;s College 13-7 before outscoring their southern suburbs rivals, <strong>SACS<\/strong>, 12-3 later in the day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matt Fenn<\/strong> scored five times against the hosts after a couple of impressive performances on day one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Harry Ford <\/strong>added a hattrick, while <strong>Owen Cross<\/strong>, <strong>Timothy Young<\/strong>, <strong>Luke Cartwright<\/strong>, <strong>Noah Edmunds<\/strong>, and<strong> Heath Blackwell<\/strong> all found the back of the net.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Waterpolo - SACS vs Bishops Diocesan College - SAC Shield - 24 January 2025\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/X-kEOmWUg00?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Coach<strong> Jabulani Sibiya&#8217;<\/strong>s side plays a final pool game against <strong>Westville Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> on Saturday morning before their shifting attention to the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n<p>Another Pool A side, which is eager to make it to the last eight and cause an upset, is <strong>St Stithians College<\/strong>, led by coach <strong>Michael Stewart<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After a win and a loss on Thursday, <em><strong>Saints<\/strong> <\/em>returned with vigour and confidence and dominated on Friday, beating KZN&#8217;s <strong>Westville<\/strong> 11-8 and <strong>Clifton College<\/strong> 14-5.<\/p>\n<p>The KZN schools would have not enjoyed those defeats, but they both would have departed the pool on Friday in an optimistic mood after bagging crucial wins of their own.<\/p>\n<p>Coach <strong>Matt Stringer&#8217;<\/strong>s Westville side boys pulled off their first win in Makhanda by stunning SACS 6-5. <strong>Henry Harker<\/strong> led the way with a double, while\u00a0<strong>Oli van der Merwe<\/strong>, <strong>Brogan Jones<\/strong>, <strong>Drew Hollingsworth<\/strong>, and <strong>Andrew Boucher <\/strong>all netted, too.<\/p>\n<p>Clifton pulled off an impressive turnaround and bounced back from their disappointing loss to Saints with a 9-7 win over St Andrew&#8217;s College.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nathan Burger<\/strong>, who has been a frequent goal scorer for the Durban school, bagged a brace alongside <strong>Kyle Human <\/strong>and<strong> Daniel Nothard<\/strong>. <strong>Nabil Bejia<\/strong>, <strong>Jake Frederic<\/strong>, and <strong>Jamie Nicolau <\/strong>also got in on the action with a goal each.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_63164\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-63164\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-63164\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Shield-Day-2-21-2-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"Rondebosch Boys' High's Joshua Ripsold going for goal against Selborne College during day two of the SAC Shield. Photo: <strong>Toni Butterworth<\/strong>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Rondebosch Boys&#8217; High is in full control of Pool B after maintaining a 100 percent winning record, although they came close to losing it.<\/p>\n<p>Coach <strong>Jared Wingate-Pearse<\/strong>&#8216;s boys form a confident unit, but they were forced to grind out wins over <strong>St John&#8217;s<\/strong> <strong>College<\/strong> and<strong> Selborne College<\/strong> on day two.<\/p>\n<p>Their first game, against St John&#8217;s, went to a penalty shootout, while Selborne made &#8216;Bosch work hard before the Cape Town boys secured a 12-8 victory.<\/p>\n<p>Selborne, despite the defeat to &#8216;Bosch, was another team that played attractive and smart water polo on the day.<\/p>\n<p>Coach <strong>Storm Siebert&#8217;<\/strong>s troops defeated Grey High in a provincial tussle early on before pulling off their biggest win of the year so far against <strong>Hilton College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Selborne stunned <strong>Paul Roos Gimnasium (PRG)<\/strong> on day one, but the win against Hilton puts coach Siebert&#8217;s side in prime position to qualify for the next round.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Hilton comfortably beat PRG and then won by an impressive five goals against St John&#8217;s. However, they also beat PRG to claw back some ground after going down to Rondebosch and Hilton.<\/p>\n<p>St John&#8217;s captain <strong>Nicholas Searle<\/strong> led from the front in all three matches.
