SACS’s First XI of 2025<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

It was Paarl Gimnasium<\/strong>, Diocesan College (Bishops)<\/strong>, and SACS<\/strong> which came the fastest out of the blocks during the opening round of matches of the Western Cape\u2019s regional final of the Schools SA20<\/strong> in Oudtshoorn.<\/p>\n

Bishops secured a vital four-wicket victory over Paarl Boys\u2019 High<\/strong> in their opening match. Boishaai<\/strong><\/em> batted first and reached a formidable 150\/7 thanks to a half-century by Abriam Jacobs (54) and another valuable contribution by Christiaan van Zuydam<\/strong> (31*).<\/p>\n

Jacobs and his opening partner, Brent Goosen<\/strong> (16), laid the foundation with a 68-run opening partnership.<\/p>\n

Julian Pilkington<\/strong> (2\/12) and Thaafier Japtha<\/strong> (2\/28) picked up two wickets each. Bishops then reached the target with three balls to spare with Japtha (41), Waco Bassick<\/strong> (36*) and James Robb-Quinlan<\/strong> (35) all making contributions with the bat in hand.<\/p>\n

Paarl Gimnasium<\/strong> defeated the D\u2019Almeida Hub<\/strong> by 100 runs after they posted a mammoth 195\/5 in their 20 overs. Charles King<\/strong> (56), Wian Munnik<\/strong> (47), and De Waal Viviers<\/strong> (39) led the charge.<\/p>\n

The D\u2019Almeida Hub<\/strong>, from Mossel Bay, reached 95\/6 in their 20 overs with their opening batsman Kearan Arends<\/strong> (50*) scoring the bulk of their runs.<\/p>\n

SACS got their campaign in Oudtshoorn off the ground with a nine-run victory over Bridgton Hub<\/strong>. SACS was restricted to 115 with star player and captain, Ulrich Roth<\/strong> (19), top-scoring for them.<\/p>\n

The visitors from Cape Town\u2019s batsmen were troubled by the bowling of Lastio Williams<\/strong> (2\/13), Sherwin Plaaitjies<\/strong> (2\/21) and Jerwill van Wyngaard<\/strong> (2\/22).<\/p>\n

Bridgton mustered 106\/7 in their reply, with Plaaitjies (30*) and Wilvino Meyer<\/strong> (26) providing some resistance. The picks of SACS\u2019 bowling attack were Saeed Conrad<\/strong> (2\/12) and Abhay Kalan<\/strong> (2\/13).<\/p>\n

Conrad is the son of the Proteas’ Test team coach, Shukri Conrad<\/strong>. Conrad sr. represented the South African Schools\u2019 side back in 1983 and 1984.<\/p>\n
