Photo: <strong>Toni Butterworth<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>New <strong>St Andrew&#8217;s College (SAC)<\/strong> <strong>Shield<\/strong> champions will be crowned after <strong>St John&#8217;s College<\/strong> and <strong>Rondebosch Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> booked their places in the final on Saturday in Makhanda.<\/p>\n<p>The annual tournament, hosted by St Andrew&#8217;s College, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/high-scoring-on-the-opening-day-of-the-sac-shield\/\">kicked off on Thursday<\/a><\/strong> and culminates with the highly anticipated final on Sunday at 12:10.<\/p>\n<p>The event has produced fireworks and entertained from the get-go, including some shock results along the way.<\/p>\n<p>To reserve their place in the title decider, St John&#8217;s recorded a gritty 8-6 win over <strong>Bishops Diocesan College,<\/strong> while Rondebosch outplayed <strong>Selborne College<\/strong> 11-6 in the other semi-final to secure a shot at the silverware.<\/p>\n<p>St John&#8217;s, under the leadership of coaches <strong>Vlado Trninic<\/strong> and <strong>Jon-Marc De Carvalho<\/strong>, powered their way into the semi-finals with a convincing 14-7 defeat of <strong>Clifton College<\/strong> 14-7 in the last eight.<\/p>\n<p>They were out of the blocks quickly and opened the scoring through their influential skipper, <strong>Nicholas Searle<\/strong>, within two minutes of the start of the contest.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Waterpolo - Selborne College vs St Stithians College - SAC Shield - 25 January 2025\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VuCqZHV1R_Y?start=191&amp;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>They never trailed, although it was tight at half-time, with St John&#8217;s a goal ahead at 4-3 after Searle struck again, which was followed by goals from <strong>Luke Shipway <\/strong>and<strong> Christopher Chapman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Bishops came out firing in the third chukka and drew first blood when captain <strong>Heath Blackwell<\/strong> found the back of the net early on to level matters.<\/p>\n<p>Fan favourite Luke Shipway quickly restored the St John&#8217;s lead and upped his personal tally to two goals. As the contest headed into the final chukka, St John&#8217;s led 5-4.<\/p>\n<p>They increased their advantage to two goals with a sixth goal early in the final quarter through <strong>Ethan Wilcocks<\/strong>, which served to increase the pressure on coach <strong>Jabulani Sibiya&#8217;<\/strong>s side.<\/p>\n<p>Bishops was still in it, though, and they created opportunities, even without one of their key players, <strong>Timothy Young<\/strong>, who received three exclusions. The Capetonians struggled to finish, however.
