{"id":63509,"date":"2025-01-30T12:05:15","date_gmt":"2025-01-30T10:05:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=63509"},"modified":"2025-01-30T12:05:15","modified_gmt":"2025-01-30T10:05:15","slug":"fixtures-and-teams-for-the-2025-national-aquatics-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=63509","title":{"rendered":"Fixtures and teams for the 2025 National Aquatics Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-63517\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/water-polo-swpsa-2024-300125-400x332.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"332\" \/>Clarendon High School<\/strong> <strong>for Girls<\/strong> is gearing up to host the 2025 edition of the <strong>National Aquatics Festival<\/strong> in East London.<\/p>\n<p>The much-anticipated annual event kicks off on Friday, 31 January, and ends with the final of the water polo competition on Saturday, 1 February, at 13:40.<\/p>\n<p>The action takes place at two venues: The <strong>Clarendon Harrison Aquatic Centre <\/strong>and <strong>Selborne College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In attendance will be 10 strong water polo-playing schools, including last year&#8217;s champions, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/day-2-durban-girls-college-defy-the-odds-to-clinch-national-aquatics-honours\/\">Durban Girls&#8217; College (DGC), who defeated St Mary&#8217;s Waverley in a penalty shootout<\/a><\/strong> to win the title.<\/p>\n<p>The KwaZulu-Natal outfit has been drawn in Pool A and will face the <strong>Clarendon<\/strong>, <strong>St Mary&#8217;s DSG Kloof<\/strong>, <strong>Our Lady of Fatima<\/strong>, also from Durban, and <strong>Rhenish Girls&#8217; High<\/strong>, from Stellenbosch.<\/p>\n<p>DGC heads into the tournament as one of the favourites to lift the title they claimed in Durban in 2024. They&#8217;ll be confident after a strong showing at last week&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/herschel-clinches-brian-baker-title-for-a-second-year-in-succession\/\">Brian Baker Tournament<\/a><\/strong>, which was hosted by Kingswood College in Makhanda.\u00a0There, DGC, despite not yet playing their best polo, finished eighth out of 20 teams.<\/p>\n<p>Clarendon, led by coach <strong>Hannah Muller<\/strong>, was also in action at the Brian Baker Tournament and ended in 10th spot.<\/p>\n<p>They defeated Rhenish 6-3 in their playoff match and, as the hosts of the National Aquatics Festival, will be eager to improve the showing of last year&#8217;s bronze medal-winning team.<\/p>\n<p>St Mary&#8217;s DSG Kloof, Our Lady of Fatima, and Rhenish will also have designs on the silverware and could sprint a surprise or two.<\/p>\n<p>Pool B features some heavyweights, including last year&#8217;s runner-up, St Mary&#8217;s Waverley.\u00a0They&#8217;ll be up against <strong>Maris Stella<\/strong>, Gqeberha&#8217;s <strong>Collegiate Girls&#8217; High<\/strong>, Clarendon&#8217;s second team, and <strong>St Stithians College<\/strong>, now led by coach <strong>Megan Sileno<\/strong>, who was in charge of <strong>St Anne&#8217;s <\/strong>last year.<\/p>\n<p>Both of the Gauteng schools, St Mary&#8217;s and <em><strong>Saints<\/strong><\/em> contested the Brian Baker Tournament a week ago.<\/p>\n<p>There, St Mary&#8217;s defeated <strong>Kingswood College<\/strong> 6-5 to finish in 11th, while Saints suffered a 4-5 loss against <strong>Reddam House Constantia<\/strong> in the bronze medal showdown.<\/p>\n<p>Matches will run concurrently in both swimming pools, with the first games starting at 14:30 on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from the water polo tournament, the festival also includes a <strong>swimming gala, <\/strong>with medals for juniors and seniors on the line.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SWIMMING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gala Participants<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Clarendon High School<br \/>\nC&amp;N Sekond\u00eare Meisieskool Oranje<br \/>\nDurban Girls&#8217;
