Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/teamphotosa.co.za\/\"><strong>TeamPhotoSA<\/strong><\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>St Andrew&#8217;s College <\/strong>produced a thrilling performance on Friday, day two of the <strong>Vides Water Polo Tournament,<\/strong> in East London, to knock off <strong>Paul Roos Gimnasium (PRG)<\/strong> in the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n<p>College was made to work extremely hard. The game went down to a penalty shootout after it had ended level at 6-6, and the boys from Makhanda triumphed 5-3 from the spot.<\/p>\n<p>It was a well-deserved victory for coach <strong>Grant Mackenzie&#8217;<\/strong>s troops, who have played some brilliant water polo. On the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/day-1-vides-top-guns-score-big-on-opening-day\/\">opening day<\/a><\/strong>, they defeated KwaZulu-Natal&#8217;s <strong>Michaelhouse<\/strong> 8-6 and they carried that momentum over to Friday.<\/p>\n<p>St Andrew&#8217;s completed their pool matches in style by beating <strong>Wynberg Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> 7-6 in a match in which their vice-captain <strong>Calum Emslie<\/strong> made his 100th appearance for the team.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"1st Selborne College vs 1st Reddam House Constantia - Vides Water Polo Festival - 14 February 2025\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fAci4fdUcII?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Soon after, they thumped <strong>Stirling<\/strong> 14-2 to book their spot in the last eight.<\/p>\n<p>Up against a strong PRG side, the St Andrew&#8217;s players displayed a high level of maturity, composure, and grit to remain in the fight.<\/p>\n<p>There was nothing to separate the teams after they had traded blows for all four chukkas, and it went down to a shootout.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Luke Parker<\/strong>, <strong>Thomas Owen-Jones<\/strong>, Emslie, and skipper <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/five-players-to-watch-at-the-vides-water-polo-tournament\/\">Coel Trollip<\/a><\/strong> converted from the penalty spot for College, who became the second team to book their place in the semi-finals after <strong>St David&#8217;s Marist Inanda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Coach <strong>Dean Whyte&#8217;<\/strong>s side was outstanding throughout the pool stages and was also unbeaten after three matches, scoring freely to rack up more than 40 goals while remaining solid on defence.<\/p>\n<p>They were pushed hard by <strong>Michaelhouse<\/strong> but won 6-4 to progress.<\/p>\n<p>The hosts, meanwhile, shrugged off <strong>Grey High<\/strong> 9-2 to book their spot in the semis.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_64730\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-64730\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-64730\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-02-14-at-19.44.40-b-400x268.jpg\" alt=\"St David's Marist Inanda will face Clifton College for a place in the final of the Vides Water Polo Tournament.
